JONATHAN LINDEN WAY

Jonathan Linden Way, 84, of Gainesville, formerly of Manassas, Virginia passed away on September 28, 2023.



Born April 21, 1939, in New York, he was the son of the late Alfred Way and Elizabeth Linden Way. On October 1,1966, in Houston, Texas, he married the former Shirley Dipboye, who survives. Jonathan is a graduate of the United States Merchant Marine Academy and a graduate of the Business School at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Following graduation, Jonathan proudly served his country in the United State Navy and later served alongside with regular civilian work, as an officer in the US Navy Reserves as a navigator and watch officer in the reserve crew of a destroyer. He worked 37 years for EXXON in a wide variety of professional and management assignments around the world. In January 2007, Mr. Way was appointed to the Manassas City Council and then subsequently elected in May 2008. He intently worked on achieving workable solutions to real problems, particularly focused on positive economic development within the city and transportation systems in Northern Virginia.



Survivors include his beloved wife, Shirley Way; two daughters, Karen, and Cynthia (husband James Caple); grandson, Jake Morgan; and a sister, Elizabeth Klaschka. The family will receive friends on Monday, October 9, 2023, from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Baker-Post Funeral Home Cremation Center, 10001 Nokesville Road, Manassas. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, October 10, 2023, at 10 a.m. at the Grace United Methodist Church, 9750 Wellington Road, Manassas, VA. Interment will follow in the Chestnut Grove Cemetery, Herndon, VA.
