JOSEPH L. GOODMAN  
Joseph L. Goodman, 92, former longtime resident of Silver Spring, MD., died November 22, 2018 at the Sunny View Care Center, Alhambra, CA.He was born June 10, 1926 in New York City, the son of Morris and Bessie Weinberg Goodman of Scranton, PA. He grew up in Scranton, where he attended public schools and graduated from Central High School in 1943. He attended the University of Scranton and received a Bachelor of Science Degree from Penn State in electrical engineering in 1947. He took postgraduate studies at Penn State and received a Master's Degree in aerospace engineering from Catholic University, Washington, DC in 1967.Joseph was employed by a number of firms under contract with the US Department of Defense, including the Glen L. Martin Aircraft Corp. in Baltimore, Vitro Laboratories, Silver Spring, MD., Riverside Research Institute, Arlington, VA., and GE Aerospace, Arlington, VA. While most of his professional accomplishments remain classified, he received recognition for patents obtained on behalf of his employers. After his retirement, he taught physics part-time for ten years at the Slawsky Physics Clinic of the University of Maryland, College Park.Mr. Goodman and his wife moved to California from Silver Spring in March of this year. He was predeceased by a son, Harold Goodman of Santa Cruz, CA., and a sister, Anita (Mrs. Henry) Pisarz of The Bronx, NY.Surviving are his wife of 67 years, Shirley Wiesenfeld Goodman; sons Martin J. Goodman of Jerusalem, Israel and Kenneth D. Goodman of Los Angeles, CA; a daughter, Nancy (Mrs. Robert) Schweiss of Columbia, MD; two grandsons, Matthew and Elliot Schweiss; a brother, Alvin S. Goodman of Harrisburg, PA. and a sister, Elaine Alper of Glen Ellyn, IL; nieces and nephews.A Memorial Service will be held at Noon Sunday, December 2, 2018 at the Hines-Rinaldi Funeral Home, 11800 New Hampshire Ave., Silver Spring, MD. Burial will follow at the Garden of Remembrance Cemetery, 14321 Comus Road, Clarksburg, MD.
