JOSEPH SHUGRUE Obituary

JOSEPH N. SHUGRUE (Age 89)
Of Locust Grove, VA, formerly a 25-year resident of Vienna, VA, peacefully passed away on September 28, 2015. He was a WWII veteran, a career long public servant, a skilled lector for his church, and a tireless advocate for fair housing. But most of all, he was a devoted family man who loved his wife of 64 years, his children, grandchildren, and dogs, and sacrificed greatly for them all. He is survived by his wife Mary and six children: Catherine (Daniel) Habes of Cincinnati, OH; John Shugrue of Stamford, CT; Paul (Fenton) Shugrue of Norfolk, VA; Clare (Christopher) Rupp of Jacksonville, NC; Marian Shugrue of Seattle, WA; and Laura Shugrue of Springfield, VA. He is also survived by six grandchildren, Daniel and Joseph Habes, Cassidy and Kelsey Rupp, and Joseph and Michael Shugrue, and by several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers Rev. John Shugrue and James "Bud" Shugrue and his sister Mary Shugrue. Funeral will be in Norwich, CT.

On behalf of President/Chief Administrator David Eustis and the entire Northwest Catholic High School community, I offer my deepest sympathy on the passing of Joseph Shugrue.

Joseph's nephew, NWC faculty member Jim Shugrue, is a valued member of the NWC community, so we mourn Joseph's loss along with all who love him.

Please know that we will remember Joseph and his entire family in a special way during our daily prayers this week and also at our next school-wide Mass. We are very sorry for your loss.

Joe Shugrue was my best friend at the Catholic University of America. He was a scholar graduating with a Phi beta Kappa
key for outstanding scholarship. I admired him for his Irishness, his religious devotion, patriotism, his love of family and his humor. May flight of angels wing him to his eternal rest.
