Hi Nancy, neighbor Bruce here. Shocking to learn of Kaye's passing. I hope you are otherwise doing well. Hope to see you at a class reunion (Oct. 8 @ Ft Hunt Park) or something one day before we all join Kaye.

With great sadness, the family of Katherine "Kaye" Hines Matusik announces her passing on Monday, August 14, 2023 at the age of 68.
Kaye was born on September 17, 1954 in Pensacola, Florida to Navy Lieutenant Commander William "Bill" and Rebecca "Becky" Brown Hines. She spent her early childhood years growing up in mainland Japan and on the beautiful island of Okinawa before the family relocated to Alexandria, Virginia in 1966. There, she graduated from Groveton High School in 1972 before attending Virginia Tech where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1976.
Kaye worked as an independent event and meeting planner until her retirement in 2012. Following her retirement, she became involved in the Nelly Custis Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution where she was a valued member and friend.
Above all, Kaye enjoyed spending time with her family. She was a devoted wife and mother, and recently, a new grandmother. She was known for her passion for cooking, quilting, her love of sudoku and for doting on her cherished cats. Kaye was, also, an avid gardener, earning the designation of Master Gardener. Inspired by her early years, Kaye fostered an appreciation and fondness for Asian culture and art.
Kaye will be lovingly remembered by her beloved husband of 40 years, John S. Matusik and by her two daughters, Katherine "Katie" Matusik Hill (Daniel) and Elizabeth Lacey Matusik. She will also be missed by her granddaughter, Rebecca Zoe Hill. Kaye is survived by her brothers, Parker B. Hines and Robert "Bob" C. Hines (Elizabeth), in addition to her sister, Nancy H. Foor (Tom). She will be dearly missed by numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins, along with a host of neighbors and friends.
A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, September 9, 2023 at Belle Haven Country Club in Alexandria, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to Insight Memory Care Center in her honor at: Insight Memory Care Center, Attn: Development, 3953 Pender Drive, Suite 100, Fairfax, VA 22030 or make an online donation at www.insightmcc.org/donate. Please include a note indicating the donation is in memory of Kaye.
