KATHERINE ROTH Obituary

Dr. KATHARINE KELLOND ROTH  (Age 45)
Dr. Katharine Kellond Roth, known to all as Katy, died at Georgetown University Hospital on December 15, 2014, after a long struggle with seizure disorder and Behcet's Syndrome (an auto-immune disease). A resident of Washington, DC since 1997, Katy was a determined and devoted hospice and palliative care physician, earning praise from colleagues and patients for her unusual degree of empathy and caring. Katy was born in 1969 in Wilmington, DE, daughter of the late Senator William V. Roth, Jr. (R-DE) and Jane Richards Roth, a federal judge. She earned her BA from Wesleyan University in 1991 and her MD from Georgetown University Medical School in 2001. She is survived by her husband of 16 years, Chris Weston, her young sons Nicholas and William, her mother Jane, her brother William "Bud" Roth, sister-in-law Amy Tsui, nephews Robert and Charles, and niece Victoria. Katy also leaves behind two bulldogs, Fatima and Teenie.  Katy's determination in pursuing her medical career despite several health obstacles was an inspiration to those who knew her. She was joyful and shone a bright light of positive energy and love that will never be lost. A memorial service for friends and family will be held at St. Patrick's Episcopal Church in Washington, DC, at 2 p.m. on Sunday, January 4, 2015.

I'm so sad to hear of Katy's passing. She was a caring doctor. My favorite memory of her was when she went above and beyond to help a dying woman get her papers in order. The woman was so anxious about achieving this and Katy bought her great comfort in her final hours. She loved being a doctor, but most of all being a mother.
