Rosemary and family:
Sorry for your loss. We recollect Ping's illustrious career and the times Bill serve next to him. Our memories are many and with fondest regards to Ping and the whole family.
Your children can live knowing of what a great man their father was and Coast Guardsman. He certainly was a true leader and friend, as well as you.

Dear Rosemary, David, Cindy, Yen and Family,
I hope you are comforted by the knowledge that Ping was loved and respected by so many people - as evidenced by the multitude of prayers and good wishes that came his way from former classmates, colleagues and friends when he was ill. Joyce Richardson pegged him beautifully in her tribute here. He will be sorely missed, but we treasure the wonderful memories he has left us.

Rosemary, David, Cindy, and Rosie:
A day will never pass without a fond remembrance of Ping. Our lives and careers were, for several brief years, intertwined. He was my mentor. A great leader, humanitarian and American. He exuded courage and always took the high road. He showed us a great zest for life. Never ambitious, always humble...ready to attack the next problem and surmount life's hurdles. He's a hero to me and another will not soon pass our way. I offer the Smith family's sincere condolences for all you've endured, culminating in this huge loss. God bless you all.

Dear Rosemary, David, Cindy, and Family: We have been so blessed to know Ping and all of you. Beginning with the days in Mobile with our deployments, then reconnecting with you at the airport in Japan as you were bringing Rosie back home. Most of all we will never forget Ping's words that his illness "brought me closer to God and to Rosemary and family." We miss our dear brother, but know he is with the Lord Jesus now. May God's comfort and peace be with you during these days.
Love, Frank and Ginny

Dear Rosemary and family--I think of the special times when Ping was with you at our AAUW events and he would talk so proudly of the children and it was clear how fond he wa of you. In every way, he was always kind and encouraging and personally generous of his time and talents. Please accept my heartfelt condolences at this time.

I had the happy chance encounter of meeting Ping at the Burke Rehabilitation Center, while visiting Jim Ayres, a mutual friend. Both Jim and Ping were battling their own health issues, and both were keeping a positive outlook. It was sheer serendipity that these two longtime friends wound up in the same facility. Ping immediately impressed me as someone I would remember with awe. He was a very special person, and I feel blessed to have met him. I am so sorry for your loss. Peace be with your family, Gini Moore

Dear Rosemary, David, Cindy and Yen,
I have had the privilege of knowing Ping since 1949. Many good memories and thoughts, we lost many years but we never lost the respect and love for each other.

I don't believe Ping went to heaven walking the rainbow, I think he flew his favorite air craft, and then when he landed, gave God a good laugh when Ping inspected the landing field and said it was in good hape.

The second love Ping had was photography and I can just picture him in heaven setting up for the next photo shoot. "Now God would you adjust your robe so that your sandals show now drape your hand over the edge of the chair. Perfect"

When I was young I lost a dear friend and my Dad said that he could just see Kim in heaven sitting at God's feet telling him a good joke. I have always carried that memory, a nice one in my mind. Now I can just hear a conversation Ping may be having with God.

"God you have blessed me with a wonderful family and an outstanding life and we have had many converations about how you have blessed me, and I enjoyed the many conversations we have had when I was flying and felt closer to you. Thank you for those special times, when things were close and you pulled me through. It has been a privilege and joy to serve you and my country and I leave my family in your hands

I am truly thankful Ping crossed my life path and will always think of him as a very special gift.

Rosemary,
Stella and I remember Ping quite fondly as a dear friend, unselfish with his time and a benchmark as a compassionate human being. We came known him as a portrait photographer through a small networking group in its humble beginnings here in Vienna that he grew along with to its present day success over the last 14 years.

His contributions are immeasurable as an accomplished photographer with a keen eye to the minutest of details that escapes the untrained eye. I personally have “heard” him speak when I see a portrait, a framed photo of a natural landscape or even and equestrian picture… turn a little left, head up, shoulders back and SMILE people! In fact, most of us have as he has photographed family and friends weddings through the decades!

He has left us all with such an indelible mark in all the lives he has touched through genuine friendship, has graced us with his eternal legacy of photographic talent in this art form and his endless love for God, country, his family and friends.

May God rest his soul and His love shine mercy upon us all.

With love,
Tom & Stella Thieman

Dear Hsu Family,

My wife and I were first introduced to Ping through my brother Tom Thieman - we were looking for a wedding photographer.

Ping's love for capturing life's moments through photography made him an instant friend. His passion for excellence in life was demonstrated in how he approached photography and in his stories about his children's accomplishments. Ping also shared with us his tips for a lasting and loving marriage.

On our wedding day, Ping helped Laura and me to remember the deeper reasons for the day. As expected he did an excellent job freezing all those special wedding day moments through the lens of his camera.

We saw Ping as a wonderful, enthusiastic, thoughtful, kind and gentle man. Laura and I are grateful that we met him and that he has been a part of our lives. We are better for it.

May God bless and keep you and the Hsu family.

Prayerfully yours,
Michael and Laura Thieman
