LAFAYETTE BARNES  
On Tuesday, February 24, 2015, Lafayette Barnes went home peacefully to be with The Lord. Lafayette was born in Selma, North Carolina on February 15, 1924, raised in Durham, North Carolina, and received his honorable discharge from the U.S. Army after serving in the Korean War in 1946. He lived most of his life in Washington, DC where he retired after a distinguished career at the US Department of Housing and Urban Development. Lafayette is a long standing member of Hughes Memorial United Methodist Church in Washington, DC. He loved music and performed in several choirs including the One Accord Singers at Deanwood First Baptist Church, Washington Overtones, Washington Male Choral, and the Senior Choir at Hughes Memorial.  Lafayette is survived by two sons Lafayette (Denise) and Rodney, four grandchildren Desmond, Lafayette, Nefertiti (Rodney), and Caitlin, and two great grandchildren Kaden and Zaryn, as well as family members in Durham, North Carolina, and extended family in the DMV.  Lafayette's Home Going Celebration will be held at Hughes Memorial United Methodist Church, 25 53rd St., N.E., Washington, DC, on Tuesday, March 3 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Music Ministry at Hughes Memorial United Methodist Church.
