Larry Dipoma Obituary


DIPOMA LARRY R. DIPOMA (Age 66) A retired USAF Colonel, passed away on September 2, 2010, in San Antonio, TX. Larry was born in Logan, Utah to Ray and Ruth Dipoma. He received a Bachelor's Degree in American History from Weber State College in Ogden, Utah and a Master's Degree in European History and an ROTC commission from Utah State University. He was also a graduate of Squadron Office School, Air Command and Staff College, and Air War College. During his career with the USAF, Colonel Dipoma was responsible for ten Aerospace Fuels laboratories located worldwide, and for the development and oversight of petroleum management policy for the Department of Defense. He worked with Congress, Services, Joint Staff, and other federal agencies to develop the Defense Planning Guidance, the Defense Budget, Congressional testimony, and proposed legislation. Colonel Dipoma formulated United States positions on petroleum matters for NATO committees and advised the Department of Energy on wartime civil emergency planning. His decorations include the Defense Superior Service medal, Air Force Meritorious Service Medal with three oak leaf clusters and the Air Force Commendation Medal with two oak leaf clusters. Colonel Dipoma is survived by his wife, Chris, of San Antonio, TX; daughter, Heather (Bill) Cooper, of Fairfax Station, VA; son, Nick (Devon) Dipoma, of Navarre, FL; grandson, Brock Cooper; parents, Ray and Ruth Dipoma, of Ogden, Utah; sisters Tami Proctor and Nancy Russell; and brothers, Dewey Dipoma and Terry Dipoma. He also leaves his beloved dog, Pete. Inurnment with full military honors will take place at Arlington National Cemetery on November 4, 2010 at 9 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Larry R.
