I worked for RLLS for three years and worked closely with Mr Levitan. He was a wonderful man and I'm grateful for the time I was able to spend with him.

Larry was my oldest close friend. We met in Washington, 1939 in front of our father´s stores on 7th Street at Florida Ave. I eventually moved permanently to Annapolis and spent time with Larry through his years in the legislation, retirement to his law firm and phone calls as he crossed the Chesapeake Bridge.
There were many funny stories. The one I will share is when a mutual friend Jimmy Cafritz opened a Poppi´s franchise in Annapolis. Larry called me and asked if I would
have dinner with him and suggested Jimmy´s new fast food ? We went. We both had the extra hot fried chicken. Two days later, at 8am I received a call from Larry´s Secretary asking if I knew where he was? Barbara called shortly after. I found Larry, in bed still sick from our dinner out, two days later. All ended well. I will miss my friend, he was always there for me.

To me, Larry was always a "mensch" (look it up)! While highly respected and held in high esteem, never-the-less, he was a down-to-earth gentleman.
He once asked for me to help him with a hand-me-down computer. We were setting up communications, which was a big deal at that time. I figured if Bell's first message over the first telephone was "Mr. Watson, come here. I want to see you.", my message to Senator Levitan was a simple "Yahoo is on sale at the Giant." He must have liked Yahoo also, because that started a strong friendship.
He invited me to a birthday celebration he was planning, and it was a milestone. Fifty, I think. Maybe sixty. But that was forty (or thirty) years ago.
Many District Fifteen experiences we shared. Lots of trips to Annapolis to visit, and my to crash events. Annual dinner/going to Hexagon show. Dinners at Dutch's Daughter, in Frederick. Down to a call/message on his birthday.
And that is what a "mensch" is. Rest in peace my friend.

My sincere condolences to the entire Levitan family. My memories of Larry are special. He was supportive of me when I entered the business world and was helpful with advise when i needed it. He served the people in his district with what he felt was best. He will be missed! A very unique man!

I have had the pleasure of Larry and Barbara´s company for the past few years after they moved to Delaware right up the road from we are. We had dinner with the Levitans every week and enjoyed political gossip about our Montgomery and State politics. As Chairman of the Senate Budget and Tax, he was a very powerful political figure and a wonderful friend. I will truly miss him!!

We have been in Ocean City for the past several years. We have been blessed with the friendship of Larry and Barbara right up the road in Delaware. We usually had dinner once a week and thoroughly enjoyed discussing the events of our native Montgomery and Maryland state politics. As Chairman of Senate Budget & Tax he was a very powerful state leader. He was so fortunate to have Barbara at his side, a powerful woman in her own right.
I will truly miss him.

I am sorry to learn about Senator Levitan's passing. My late Mother, Jean W. Roesser succeeded him in office in 1994, a campaign I will never forget. Though different sides of the aisle, Larry left the most eloquent tribute to her upon her passing in 2017, and we were most appreciative. "Old School Politics."

Barbara -
My heart is with you and your beautiful, large family. Unfortunately, I could not go to the Reception, so I couldn't give you my condolences in person.
As you know, I started working for Larry in June, 1968, I worked with Pat Quinn, who has also sent you a note.
Larry will be remembered by many.

Sending love to Barbara, Mim, Joan and Chuck from Vermont, along with lots of memories, starting on Jenifer Street, when the Seder table-filled with aunts, uncles and cousins-ran the length of the dining room, through the living room, and almost to the front door. Years later, I was always proud that my cousin Larry helped keep Maryland in good financial health.

I'm so very sorry to learn of Mr. Levitan's death. I was his (and Michael Cramer's) secretary many, many years ago (late 1960's-early 1970's) and he and Mrs. Levitan attended my wedding. We lost touch, but I've never forgotten his warmth and kindness. Working for the firm of Sisk, Levitan, Cramer and Weinstein was a joy.
