Lawrence Z. Bulman (Age 83)

Lawrence Z. Bulman, husband, father, and grandfather, with his signature perpetual smile, life-affirming nods, passion for family, and love of the sea, passed peacefully on April 15, 2022 at the age of 83. A gifted lawyer, entrepreneur, captain of the award winning sail boats Yellow Jacket and Javelin, and 1962 National Hydroplane Champion, he was inducted into the Greater Washington Jewish Sports Hall of Fame and the Gulf Marine Hall of Fame. Larry had legal acuity, intellectual curiosity, an uncommon intelligence, and natural business instinct. He maintained a steady hand at the helm of a conglomerate of real estate interests, and restaurant enterprises, including more than 22 Burger Kings, and Pancake Houses. His father established Bulman, Dunie, Burke and Feld in 1930 where Larry practiced law for over 55 years.

A fourth generation Washingtonian, born in 1938, Larry was known as "the BULL" by his lifetime collection of hundreds of cherished friends from childhood, Coolidge High School, ZBT fraternity at Miami of Ohio, Georgetown University Law School, Annapolis Yacht Club, Washington Hebrew Congregation, Woodmont Country Club and the communities where he lived in Boca Raton and Chevy Chase. He was a life member of the Naval Academy Sailing Squadron, member of the New York Yacht Club and Storm Trysail Club. He also served on the board of U.S. Sailing. Larry charmed all with his charismatic smile, and deep interest in their accomplishments, and especially their families.

Larry and the cherished love of his life for 56 years, Mary Lou Newmyer Bulman, were a force of energy and love and their home was the center of many of their friends' lives. Larry was most proud of his three children Lisa Bulman Mullen (Richard Mullen), Laurie Bulman (Geoffrey Schmidt), Jonathan Bulman and his grand children Taylor (22) and Tucker Mullen (20), Bobby (13) and Annabelle Bulman (11).

Larry was preceded in death by his mother Ethel Passin Bulman, his father Joe Bulman, and his beloved sister Marsha Cohen. He is survived by his wife Mary Lou Newmyer Bulman, his siblings Jeffrey Bulman (Jane), Stuart Bulman (Peggy), his sister and brother in law Marc and Carol Spiegel.

A funeral service will be held at Washington Hebrew Congregation Tuesday, April 19 at 10:30 a.m. 3935 Macomb Street, NW, Washington, DC. For those who are unable to attend, the funeral service will be livestreamed through www.whctemple.org Following a private interment, family will be receiving friends at their residence at 2 p.m. Shiva will be held at their residence Wednesday, April 20 at 5 p.m.

To Larry's family, I'm deeply saddened by your loss. Mary Lou I'm thinking of you & your family. May your many good memories support you always.

Jeff, I am sorry for the loss of a brother. I remember doubling with Larry and Mary Lou when we almost ran into the bumper of a parked car....we didn't touch it but the jolt has always stayed with me. My thoughts are with you. We grew up together. For years I sat next to you or your parents at Adas. Yes, we danced. I remember Perkiomen too. So many fond memories. I wish you well. A loss in one's primary family leaves a gap. May it be filled for you with only good memories. Stay well. I wish you the best. June Krupsaw

Larry was the true definition of a gentleman, gentle in every way and yet so powerful in the way he touched all who knew him, a truly compassionate and dignified soul.

Mary Lou, Lisa, Laurie, Jonathan and the rest of your family, I am so sorry to hear about Larry. Such great a sincere and kind man, funny and dazzling smile. WatchingThose Wednesday night races from the front lawn at KDB...sometimes sailing with my brother Blaine and / or my cousin Michael. One of my dad´s oldest friends. He will be welcomed "up there" by many wonderful friends who left before but I know he will be greatly missed .
May Larry´s name and memory alway be a blessing.
Love to you all
Cindy
