AAMODT LEONARD CORBETT AAMODT Leonard Corbett Aamodt, 86, of Harrisonburg, Virginia (formerly of Silver Spring, Maryland) passed away on April 7, 2009 at Virginia Mennonite Retirement Community. Corbett, the oldest child of Leonard Waldamere and Margaret Corbett Aamodt was born in Salt Lake County, Utah on July 19, 1922. He graduated from the University of Utah with a degree in Electrical Engineering and received a Ph. D in Physics from Columbia University in New York City. During World War II, he worked on the Manhattan District Project which developed the atomic bomb. He married Agnes Wortley of Garland, Utah on June 26, 1951. They lived in Manhattan, New York while he was completing his degree at Columbia University. They then moved to Provo, Utah where Corbett taught at Brigham Young University in the Mathematics, Physics, and Engineering departments from 1953 through 1956. Corbett and Agnes then made their home in Silver Spring, Maryland. He was on the Senior Staff at the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory in its Research Center from 1956 though 1995. Corbett was a devoted Boy Scout leader, and served in many leadership positions including District Commissioner and Assistant Council Commissioner. He was a recipient of the Scouting Silver Beaver Awar He is survived by his beloved wife Agnes Wortley Aamodt, currently of Harrisonburg, Virginia, and their five children, Leonard W. Aamodt and his wife, Sylvia, of Harrisonburg, Deborah L. Hart and her husband, Grant, of Orem, Utah, Suzanne Gathro and her husband, David, of Jacksonville, Florida, Kristine Simmons, and her husband, Gary, of Midland, Texas, and David C. Aamodt, and his wife, Kathy, of Kansas City, Missouri. Corbett is also survived by 35 grandchildren, and 6 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Donna Harvey and husband, Robert, of Magna, Utah. He was preceded in death by his sister, Vivian, and his brother Wayne. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 8, 2009 at 7:00 PM at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 210 South Avenue, Harrisonburg, Virginia, with Bishop James Herrick officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 6:30 PM prior to the service. A second funeral service will be held Thursday, April 9, 2009 at 12:00 PM at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 500 Randolph Road, Silver Spring, Maryland, with Bishop Timothy Willis officiating. The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM to 11:30 AM prior to the service. Burial will follow at Norbeck Memorial Park in Silver Spring, Maryland. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Boy Scouts of America National Capital Area Council at National Capital Area Council, BSA, 9190 Rockville Pike, Bethesda, MD, 20814, or www.boyscoutsncac.org .
