LINDSAY ECKERT HENRY
Lindsay Eckert Henry passed away on September 8, 2022 with her family by her side after a two-year battle with cancer.
Lindsay was born on December 22, 1992, in Washington, DC to Elizabeth Eckert (née Grosz) and Thomas Eckert. She attended the Potomac School in McLean, VA, where she excelled in both academics and athletics. Lindsay went on to earn a Master's degree in elementary education from the University of Virginia in 2016, where she met her husband, Richard Henry (Bucky), whom she married in 2021.
Working for Teach for America after graduation, Lindsay was employed in the Bayview Hunters Point neighborhood of San Francisco as a special education teacher where she supported an underserved community of families with her compassionate, holistic approach to education. Her passion for teaching continued as she accepted a position at Marin Academy in 2018 where she was employed until her passing.
Lindsay's oft-sought presence was highlighted by a sharp, hilarious wit (that famously knew no out-of-bounds and pulled no punches), her magnetic charm, a love of hosting friends and family, and her meticulous planning of all things big and small. Long believed to be the child who would never move away from Virginia, Lindsay cultivated a sense for adventure in her early 20s and surprised many by pursuing a life in San Francisco following her graduation. While building a vibrant group of loving friends on the west coast, she never let the miles affect the close-knit bonds developed during her early years in Great Falls, McLean, and UVA.
In the fall of 2020, Lindsay was diagnosed with a rare form of ovarian cancer. From the onset and until the very end, Lindsay was unwavering in her determination to prevail. She refused to let the disease define her and strongly believed that each new morning brought a new chance at victory. To those who had the privilege to observe her battle, Lindsay's faith, strength, and beauty grew unimaginable depths each day: a brilliant light penetrating the darkness of the unknown.
She is survived by her husband, Bucky Henry, mother and father Beth and Tom Eckert, her sister Kathryn Eckert, brother Ryan Eckert, and grandmother Dorothy Grosz. A memorial will be held in San Francisco on October 10 at The Episcopal Church of St. Mary the Virgin, followed by a celebration of life at the Golden Gate Club. In lieu of flowers, the family requests any gifts in Lindsay's memory be directed to the Small Cell Ovarian Cancer Foundation:
