Of Petersburg, VA. Husband of Lydia G. Shands, departed this life Thursday, January 3, 2002 at his residence. He resided in Upper Marlboro, MD for many years, attending Antioch Baptist Church, Upper Marlboro, while living there. He was a retired Divisions Superintendent for the Washington Metropolitan Transist Authority and he also taught at Prince Georges Community College.
Funeral services will be 12 Noon Tuesday, January 8, 2002 at Mt. Olivet Baptist Church, Petersburg, VA and interment in Dinwiddie Memorial Park. Viewing will be Monday, from 12 Noon to 8 p.m. at SHIRLEY P. JOHNSON FUNERAL HOME, 451 Halifax St. Petersburg. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Mr. Shands to the James Alfred Scholarship Ministry, c/o Olive Branch Baptist Church, 11119 Boydton Plank Rd., Dinwiddie, VA 23841.
