LOLITA LOPEZ-CEIDE Obituary

LOLITA LOPEZ-CEIDE (Age 98)
Of Washington DC, died on Wednesday, November 23, 2016, in her home, with her daughter at her side. She was born in Puerto Rico, the fourth of nine children of Ignacio Lopez and Dolores (Lola) Torres. All her siblings preceded her in death. Her husband, Oscar Ceide, died in 1948. She is survived by her daughter, Lourdes Ceide and numerous nieces and nephews, both here and in Puerto Rico.Lolita worked at the Pan American Health Organization from 1951 until her retirement in 1978. She was much Ioved and appreciated both for the excellence of her work and her warm and gracious personality. For many years she was a member of St. Thomas Apostle Church where she was active in the Sodality and the Craft Club. Her great joy was crocheting baby blankets for The Beloved Babies Layette Program of the Christ Child Society. In recent years she had joined the Annunciation Parish family and enjoyed making casseroles for S.O.M.E. (So Others Might Eat). She would often increase the recipe so she could share with her neighbors. She enjoyed the Opera and the Theater and many other cultural and social activities in the city. She travelled to several countries with her work and with her daughter enjoyed tours of Spain, Portugal and Italy. Her happiest times were those spent with family and friends. She was an active, vibrant, caring and generous woman; a loving mother who never faltered in her love and devotion to her daughter; a woman of great faith in God who waited patiently until The Lord called her peacefully to his side. May her beautiful soul rest in peace!A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, December 1, 2016 at Annunciation Catholic Church, 3125 39th Street, NW, Washington, DC 20016.

I will always remember sweet Lolita, my good friend Lourdes' mom. I will remember her smile and the way she always remembered things about me and my family. She was a very special lady who I met when Lourdes and I started college. I am glad I got to visit her October 2015 when we had our Dunbarton reunion. There will always be a special place in my heart for her. May her beautiful soul Rest In Peace.
