Louis E. Dwyer (Age 100)

Louis Eugene Dwyer, Jr, 100 passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 20, 2022 at Sunrise at Fox Hill in Potomac, MD. He was born in New York City on October 29. 1921, the son of Anne Gilligan and Louis E. Dwyer, Sr. The family moved to Scarsdale, NY in 1930, where Louis spent his childhood. In 1935 they moved to West Palm Beach, Florida and later to Washington, DC. When he was eighteen years old, he joined the U.S. Navy as enlisted. He was promoted to an Officer during World War ll. After the war, he remained in the Reserves until his retirement as a Lt. Commander. In World War ll he served in the Pacific Theater.

In 1945, he married Margaret Downey and they were blessed with five children.

He continued to work for the U.S. Navy and also the Department of Commerce and the Department of State (A. I. D.) until his retirement. He earned a Master's Degree at American University and taught insurance courses at Montgomery College as an Adjunct Professor and was a life-long member of CPCU.

Louis then retired to Lexington, VA. with his second wife, Thelma Ingels. He was preceded in death by both Margaret Downey and Thelma Ingels and his eldest son, Michael F. Dwyer. He is survived by his loving children: Molly (Robert) Griffin, Christina McGalliard (James) O'Connor, Esme (Frederick) Frensilli and Anthony Dwyer; grand children, Christopher McGalliard, Andrew McGalliard, Sean Griffin, Fiona Griffin and great grandson, Jordan Berardi. He was also a loving step-father to his wife Thelma's five children and their grand-children.

When he turned 90, he returned to the D.C. area. His sense of humor and remarkable memory will be deeply missed. He was a wonderful man and a true gentleman and epitomized the term The Greatest Generation.

He was the best father ever! He was kind, witty, knowledgeable about so many things, and a wonderful human being. I will miss him so much.
