LYDIA CATHRENA BASHOOR "Rena"  
March 3, 1928 ~ October 11, 2016  Formerly of Accokeek, MD, passed away on Tuesday, October 11, 2016 at Marian Manor in Stafford, VA. She was 88 years old. The daughter of the late Oscar and Emily Metzger Ropke, she was born in Lava, NY on March 3, 1928. She was married for 61 years to Raymond G. Bashoor, who predeceased her.Lydia moved from New York to the Washington DC area about 1950. There she met her husband Ray while both were working at DC Metro Transit. After marriage, the two moved to Maryland where they lived out their lives. Lydia was a long-time member of Faith United Methodist Church of Accokeek. She served as church secretary for a time, and was a dedicated volunteer of the Food Pantry sponsored by the church. Lydia was retired from Naval Ordnance Station, Indian Head where she worked as a secretary until 1991. She loved nature and was an accomplished gardener. She and Ray enjoyed a peaceful life in the country with their cats, feeding and watching the birds and other animals.Survivors include her daughter, Linda (Mike) LoMonaco; grandson Joey LoMonaco; daughter-in-law, Mary Collins; several sisters-in-law and two brothers-in-law; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She is also predeceased in death by her son, David L. Bashoor; sisters, Margaret Ropke Rose and Edna Ropke Sperr, and brothers, Herman, Oscar, Charles and Chris Ropke.A private service will be held at Quantico National Cemetery. Donations may be made to Marian Manor of Stafford, where she resided for the last year, 177 Old Potomac Church Rd, Stafford, VA 22554 or to Faith United Methodist Church in Accokeek, MD for use in the food pantry, 15769 Livingston Rd, Accokeek, MD 20607.
