Lynne Astrich Obituary

Astrich

Lynne Cashman Astrich (Age 84)

Lynne C. Astrich died peacefully on February 5, 2023. She was 84.

Lynne was born in Washington, DC, and grew up in Chevy Chase, MD. She attended Bethesda Chevy Chase High School and then the University of Maryland, where she majored in Spanish, was a member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority, and crowned the University's Miss Maryland.

Following college graduation, Lynne volunteered for the Joseph D. Tydings

Senatorial Campaign, worked in the Sergeant at Arms office of the U.S. House of

Representatives, and then later for Senator Joseph D. Tydings. She met Harold J. Astrich Jr. from Harrisburg, PA in 1963 and married Harold in 1966.

Lynne was an avid volunteer: at the Florence Crittenton organization in Washington DC, The Washington National Cathedral, St. Francis Episcopal Church, and for several political campaigns.

Lynne loved to cook, garden, have a picnic, and be on beaches along the East Coast. She was a founding member of the Fallsmead Book Club; Fallsmead was her residential community for the majority of her life.

She was a member of Bethesda Country Club since 1976 and routinely

enjoyed tennis - she loved to play tennis! Her cooking interest was another volunteer activity too; she routinely delivered home cooked meals to families and friends dealing with difficult circumstances.

Upon having grandchildren she relished in baking activities with them - there are

many fond memories and photos of this!

For 32 years Lynne worked at Norwood School. She was an integral part of the Administrative team, Board of Trustees, and contributed extensively to the school's change and growth. Lynne was known for "keeping Norwood a family" and was honored when inducted into the School's Founder's organization, the Francis Marsh Society.

Lynne was devoted to her family, she was preceded in death by her husband Harold, and is survived by her daughter, Alicia Rago (h. Tony), son Craig Astrich, brother Lee (w. Phyllis), and grandchildren Marina, Caroline, Christina, and Hale.

In her final years she resided in Sumner Village in Bethesda, MD and then at Brighton Gardens in Chevy Chase, MD.

A memorial service will be held on March 14, 2pm, at St. Francis Espiscopal Church, Potomac, MD. A private interment will be at Arlington National Cemetery at a future date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Parkinson's Foundation, St. Francis Espiscopal Church, Potomac, MD; Norwood School in Bethesda, MD; Landon School, Bethesda, MD; Holton-Arms School, Bethesda, MD.

Such a wonderful and inspiring Kappa 1

So sorry for your loss and hope the loving memories stay with you forever. I was a Kappa at Maryland after Lynn, but think she might have been an adviser after graduation at one time, as I so remember her--maybe from a Kappa reunion. The Kappas will celebrate her 65 years of being our Kappa sister.
