I just learned of Marcia's passing, and I'd like to pass on my deepest condolences to her family. I coached Marcia at Donaldson Run for two years (she was 11-12 yrs old), and she was one of my very favorite "kids." My brothers also send their deep regrets.

Katie, I was so sorry to hear about your mom's untimely passing. I have been wondering why I have not seen either of you at the pool. Of the few times I spoke with you mom, she shared some flip turn advice with me. What a swimmer! Hope to see you some time over the summer.

I am still not sure I am ready to write this- was putting it off thinking that it would make it too real if I did. Pete and girls - I was so moved by your words and strength. Please know that she and you are in my thoughts and heart every day.

I am truly sorry to hear of Marcia's passing. We were friends at UVA graduate school and I had the pleasure of working with her briefly on an environmental project for DoD. I enjoyed hearing the words of your family at the service. I believe her strength, grace, and good humor live on in all of you!

I swam with and against Marcia at Donaldson Run. She was a beautiful swimmer and team mate. I remember going to her viola recital with her mom . I can visualize her being a great mom, family member, and neighbor. I am sorry for your loss.

The Read Family
I was shocked when told of Marcia's passing. We worked together at the Pentagon in the Environment office. Her devotion to you and the girls were her priority. God's blessing to you all.

Pete, I am so sorry to hear about Marcia's passing. She was my first and only swim coach and I think about her often when I am in the pool. My heart goes out to you with a warm embrace. Yates

Dear Pete, Katie and Jenny,

Hunter and I were deeply saddened to learn of Marcia's death. She remains in our memories a joyful and generous soul and a terrific neighbor. I always enjoyed seeing Marcia in the quiet hours before dawn when I was out running and she was returning from a swim or heading into the office. And no one was a surer shot when it came to the 4th of July water balloon toss!

Please know that you and Marcia and all her family and friends are in our prayers -- and I'm sending extra healing thoughts to Jenny and Katie, as I know how devastating it is to lose a parent so young (I was 24 when my dad died).

With deepest condolences,
The Walsh/Jones Family

I was a co-worker with Marcia in the DoD Environmental Office....she had a kind soul and was a very capable lady. I just really liked and respected her a lot. Her work was important to her but she loved her family above all else. My deepest condolences to the family.

We join the many neighbors on Jefferson St. in expressing our deep sadness at Marcia's passing. Before we moved to Jefferson St. in 1995, we held our wedding reception at our new house. When we arrived home from the ceremony, we noticed a single purple helium balloon tied to our railing that was greeting us and our guests. I discovered later that it was Marcia's doing. In the last 16 years, we have learned that this kind, quiet, lovely gesture was typical of Marcia. She was a steady, loving presence in our neighborhood, and her passing has touched us all. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Pete, Jenny and Katie and to Marcia's family and many friends.

I want to express my sympathy to you and the girls for the loss of Marcia. I remember Marcia from Yorktown, but mostly from her kindness to my Mom and Dad, Elaine and Ben Dean. Please know that she will be remembered with love and lots of happy memories here...

Many fond memories of Marcia at school events. I remember meeting her when Katie and Jenny were in First Grade. I saw her often during elementary, middle and high school. She was a loving and caring mother. Our prayers are with your family.

Marcia will be sorely missed by everyone who knew her. She was kind, intelligent, and a real pleasure to work with. My heart goes out to her family who must feel the hole created by her passing even more than I.

Those of us in the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's Federal Facility Enforcement Office will long remember Marcia as a great champion of the Army's various environmental activities, as a capable and dedicated public servant in achievement of that mission, and as a valuable partner in our own efforts to protect public health and the environment. All of us at EPA mourn her loss. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family and friends.

I am very sorry for your loss. While I had known Marcia since the third grade, we dealt indirectly on some environmental matters affecting my employer, the Ohio Army National Guard. She always reminded colleagues to say hello to me for her and was both gracious and receptive toward the differing views of our respective employers. Our Army has lost a fine person as well as a fine employee too soon. Please accept my condolences.

I am incredibly saddened to hear of Marcia's passing. I always considered her a great friend and fabulous colleague. Our paths seemed to cross every now and then throughtout my Government career. I really wanted her to be at my retirement, but I knew she would not be able to make it up from Virginia. my prayers and condolences go out to her family. She was a truly special person and I feel empty.
