Margaret Shaffer Dockery "Peg" (Age 86)
Of Alexandria, VA passed away peacefully on Friday, February 3, 2023. Born June 28, 1936 in South Fork, PA to Anna Mae (Mock) and Michael Shaffer, Peg moved to Washington DC upon high school graduation and spent most of her career with the National Geographic Society and National Geographic Television until her retirement in 2001.
A resident of Rose Hill for 60 years, Peg was active in her community, and a longtime member of St Lawrence Catholic Church and the Franconia Moose Lodge/Franconia Women of the Moose.
Predeceased by her parents, and sisters Anna Marie "Jean" Cann and Frances Evans, Peg is survived by her daughters Michele Harlow (Brian) of Fredericksburg, VA and Ashleigh Dorfman (Scott) of Reston, VA, her grandchildren Tyler Oliver and Lauren, Amanda, and Kyra Dorfman, great-granddaughter Grace Oliver, sister Diana Schaffranek, and brother George Sickles, Jr. A kind, loving and generous woman, she will be truly missed.
Relatives and friends may call at Jefferson Funeral Chapel, 5755 Castlewellan Drive, Alexandria, VA 22315 on Thursday, February 9, 2023, from 5 to 8 p.m. Funeral service will take place Friday, February 10, 2023, at 11 a.m. at St. Lawrence Catholic Church, 6222 Franconia Road, Alexandria, VA 22310. Interment directly following at Mt. Comfort Cemetery, 6600 South Kings Highway, Alexandria, VA 22306. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Society or a charity of your choosing. Please view and sign the family guestbook at:
