Margaret Driscoll "Margie"
Margaret "Margie" Driscoll was a wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, who was much loved by her family. She was born on Thanksgiving Day in 1926 in Kansas City, Kansas, to Allene and John L. Wait, and she died on March 26, 2023. After the start of World War II, Margie left home to join the Cadet Nurses Corps and received training at the Kahler School of Nursing in Rochester, Minnesota. As a student nurse, she helped care for patients from around the world who came to be seen by doctors at the Mayo Clinic. Later, she studied at the Ohio State University and earned a Bachelor of Science in Education degree.
While at the university, Margie met U.S. Army Captain C. Richard "Paddy" Driscoll, and they married in 1951. She set aside plans to become a Pan Am stewardess and accompanied her husband to many different Army bases, including Sandia Base in Albuquerque, New Mexico, Schofield Barracks in Oahu, and Camp Zama in Japan. They had four children: Patricia, Mark, Richard, and Michael. The family moved to Northern Virginia, for Colonel Driscoll's last assignment. They moved to Sun City Center, Florida, for their retirement years. Later, after she had become a widow, she returned to Virginia to be near her family. She died there, surrounded by her four children, their spouses, and her grandchildren.
Margie was a voracious reader, shone in ballroom dancing, and displayed brilliant card playing skills. She excelled at handicrafts, including making blankets, bracelets, and Christmas stockings for her family. She loved flowers and grew beautiful roses and orchids. Her home was always filled with flowers. Margie engaged in many social and voluntary group activities, and she worked as a travel agent, specializing in cruises. She was an athlete, who loved to swim and ski, played basketball in her youth, and did lawn bowling in her later years. She said that she would have been a good competitor in the American Ninja Warrior athletic competition. She realized her dream of travel, visiting all 50 states and over 30 countries.
Margie Driscoll is survived by her four children plus nearly 20 grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be buried alongside her husband at Arlington National Cemetery.
