On Monday, April 28, 2003, peacefully, following a brief illness, in Lancaster, England. A native of the Lake Country region, Miss Stephenson lived in Washington, DC from 1960-1988, traveling to the U.S. at the request of the family of Dr. Maria Montessori to initiate Montessori teacher training in this country - a task which she embraced with vigor. A Memorial Service will be held at 12 Noon on Saturday, June 21 at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 2665 Woodley Rd., N.W. Contributions should be made to the MES 2000 Fund - a scholarship fund for teacher trainees - c/o AMI/USA, 410 Alexander St., Rochester, NY 14607.

Miss Stephenson was one of my trainers and changed my life. She was an elegant woman, kind, sincere, and strong. I am grateful our paths crossed and hope her illness was brief.
