Marguerite Nikolajevic Obituary

NIKOLAJEVIC MARGUERITE NIKOLAJEVIC June 22, 1922 - January 15, 2009 French Embassy Financial Administrator Daughter of Marquls Henri de Saluces of Saint-Marie, France. She survived the Stock Market crash, The Depression, and WW II in Paris. After losing both parents, and raising her brothers during the War, she ended up in Washington, DC. While Working for the French Military Mission, she met Stevan Nikolajevic, with the Yugoslav Government. Steve had served with Marshall Tito's Partisan's during WWII. They met on Memorial Day, and were married 90 days later. They lived and raised three sons in Arlington, VA. After retiring from The French Financial Controllers Office in DC, and Steve (aka Nick Stevans) retired from Town & Country Realtors, they moved to Castleton, near Little Washington, VA. She did volunteer service for the Fire Department and the Community Elderly and Mental Health Services. Giving French lessons to neighbors also kept her busy. After Stevan's death, she moved back to Northern Virginia. Choosing not to drive, she was a popular figure as she walked the W&OD Trail, and took public transportation everywhere. Marguerite stayed active in the local French community events in Falls Church, and the Dejeuner de Mercredi, in DC. On November 15 she fell during a visit to Arlington, and never recovered from her injuries. She is survived by her son's family Alex (Nikol), Ken, Patrick and Matthew Nikolajevic of Falls Church, VA. Memorial Service and reception will be at 11 a.m., February l4, 2009 at Mt. Olivet Methodist Church, 1500 N. Glebe Rd., Arlington, VA 22207
