Maria "Riet" Illes

Maria (Riet) Illes was born August 11, 1935 and passed away on August 18, 2025 at the age of 90. Riet grew up in Amsterdam as the youngest of five siblings. She obtained a certification of foreign correspondence, and after moving to the US in 1961, she worked at the Dutch Embassy and subsequently as a medical transcriber until she retired in 2007. She spent her life enjoying a love of tennis, politics, classical music and reading, and most importantly a deep love of 60 years with her husband Geza (who predeceased her). Riet was a devoted mother to Vivian and Geza M (who also predeceased her) and adored her granddaughter Sophie. She was very proud to become a US citizen in 1993 as well. Riet is survived by her daughter Vivian (Brown), son-in-law Dave, granddaughter Sophie and relatives in the Netherlands. A Celebration of Life has been planned for September 20 at 2 p.m. at Brookside Gardens in Wheaton, MD (in the Auditorium).
