Marian Callahan Obituary
Born and raised in Brooklyn, NY to the late Milton and Shirley (Berlin) Hyler. Graduate of: Brooklyn College, City University of New York, with a B.A. in English; graduate of Tufts University, MA with a M.A., in Sociology and Deviance; graduate of the Columbus School of Law, Catholic University with a J.D. degree. Marian worked for a number of state and federal agencies during her professional career including the Massachusetts Department of Corrections, the Massachusetts Parole Board, the National Institute of Corrections and finally, as an attorney, for over 30 years with the U.S. Bureau of Prisons.
Marian and Ed loved to travel - traveling to all 7 continents and nearly 100 countries. Marian enjoyed the ballet, reading and attending numerous book groups. Marian enjoyed sharing these passions with her family and friends.
Marian was adventurous, generous and admired by all who had the good fortune to know her. Marian lived with a twinkle in her eye and a spirit of playfulness. She wasn't afraid to try new things. Her legacy is one of strength, kindness, humor, and unshakable love. Marian faced many health challenges in her later years, yet she remained resilient and lighthearted — always ready with a smile. Her spirit never dimmed, and her presence continued to brighten the lives of those around her.
Burial services will be held on Tuesday, August 5, 2025 at 10 a.m. at the Garden of Remembrance Memorial Park 14321 Comus Rd., Clarksburg, MD 20871, https://gardenofremembrance.org/. A reception will be held after burial at the home of Edward Callahan 3311 Ivy Meadow Drive, Frederick, MD.
In addition, the family will be receiving guests the same day as burial for shiva on August 5, 2025 between 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. with a minyan starting at 6:30 p.m. A second night of shiva will be held on August 6, 2025 between 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. with a minyan starting at 6:30 p.m.
A celebration of life will be held at a future date -- a place and time to be determined.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks, those who can, to please donate to The Johns Hopkins Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center.
