Marie Yanowsky Obituary


MARIE L. YANOWSKY (Age 85)  
On Wednesday, January 11, 2012 of Springfield, Virginia and South River, New Jersey, after a lengthy struggle with dementia. Beloved wife of Nicholas for almost 60 years; mother of Betty (John) Slanta of Alexandria, Virginia, Barbara (Michael) Bosworth of Vienna, Virginia, and Thomas (Vicki) Yanowsky of Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania. Marie has eight grandchildren, Jessica (Justin), Joshua, Sarah (Isaac), Andrew, Emma, Alex, Olivia and Erik. Funeral will be held on Sunday, January 15, 2012, at 6 p.m. at SS Peter and Paul Antiochian Orthodox Church, 10620 River Road Potomac, MD 20852, with visitation at 5 p.m. Marie had a career with the Federal Government and was a decades-long breast cancer survivor, manning the "Y-Me After Breast Cancer" Hotline. She was an avid baker, donating her nutrolls for auction to local charities, and baking communion bread for church, and was a Sunday School teacher. She was recognized by the Orthodox Church for her long years of service. In lieu of flowers, make contributions to either Orthodox Christian Mission Center (OCMC) at http://www.ocmc.org or International Orthodox Christian Charities (IOCC) at http://www.iocc.org in her name. May her memory be eternal!
