Marion Sanger Obituary

SANGER MARION CHILD SANGER On January 30, 2009. Marion was born August 30, 1909 in Yellowstone Park to Emile James Child and Huntley Child. She is survived by three children, Patience Sanger Bender, Richard H. Sanger, Jr. and Carrie Sanger Brining; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Marion was a true western woman, having spent time growing up in California, Montana and Tennessee. She received undergraduate degree from Wellesley College in 1930. Marion then married Richard H. Sanger of November 19, 1931 in Boston, MA. He had recently graduated from the Harvard Business School. Travel was a love Marion and Richard shared. They traveled to Russia in 1932 so that Richard would be free to write his novel. They returned to Washington, DC in 1934 and settled in Westmoreland Hills. Richard then began his career with the Foreign Service. Marion and Richard where stationed in the Middle East and Beruit, Lebanon and Amman, Jordan. Marion continued her tradition of community service that she learned in the Diplomatic Corps. She was board member of the Yellowstone Park Company. Marion gave of her time and talents to organizations like the International Student House, where she sat on the board for 30 years. She also actively worked at Martha's table and Meals-On-Wheels. She actively supported many other organizations. Marion was also a lifetime member of the Chevy Chase Country Club. Marion enjoyed being with her friends. She has been a resident of Ingleside since 2000 where she enjoyed serving on several committees. A Memorial Service will be held at Ingleside Assisted Living Facility, 3050 Military Rd., N.W., Washington, DC on Thursday, February 5, 2009 at 3 p.m. Interment, Friday, February 6, 2009, 10 a.m. at Rock Creek Cemetery.

A highlight of my career as a Yellowstone Park guide was taking Marion and her sister around the Park for a day on a private tour some years ago. They were gracious and charming, and full of wonderful stories of Yellowstone in an earlier era. I offer my condolences on the loss of such a great lady, and my happiness that she had such a full, rich life.

Dear Patience, Richard, and Carrie,
My thoughts and prayers are with you and your entire family. I just learned of Aunt Marion's passing and I want you to know that me and my family send our condolences. I had a wonderful visit with Aunt Marion a few years ago when I was in Washington for a wedding. It was so good to see her.
I will always have very fond memories of your Mom. This sends love and sympathy.
