Mark Asher Obituary

MARK G. ASHER 5/24/45 - 3/02/06
TO OUR WONDERFUL FATHER

If the slow cadence of an imperfect walk tenders your heart-that is he; if you see hope in a blind's stare-that is he; if you see a face shining against the darkness of a hospital bed-that is he; if you hear a loud, vibrant laughter in a happy child-that is he; if you ever see the rain, and the sun brings out the sweetest presence, that is he. Wherever we go, there you are. Every street, a distant sports event, one great meal, the movie theater in our neighborhood, a meek bird running away..the one we love, the one we never lost. That is you, papito!!! your girls forever... queenie and mello

My condolences to Mark's family. He and Len Shapiro hired me as a sports department copy aide in 1970. I can still see Mark banging out copy in his index-finger style of typing. I always looked for his byline whenever I was back in town.
