Hello,
We realize that we are very late to express our deepest condolences, but we wanted to let your family and friends know that we will be sending Care Packages to deployed troops this month and several of these will be dedicated to your loved one. Each package will carry the name, photo and hometown of Mark Norman Stubenhofer US Army Captain.

We realize that this is a small tribute, but we do this with all respect and sincerity and we want you to know that it is made possible by thousands of like-minded individuals from across the American youth hockey community, their families and friends and others who support our mission.

We will not forget. May God Bless you and keep you safe and strong.

Sincerely,

Still remember that day on the street. You were a great leader and teacher. It was fun to watch the conversations (debate) with our NCOs. In the short time in sector together, you imparted much wisdom to our entire platoon. Never forgotten.

To the family of Captain Stubenhofer, I just wanted to say thank you. My daughter and I just stood by his mile marker memorial for the annual Run for the Heroes in Stafford, Va. I was truly humbled to be there when they planed a flag at his marker, saluted it, and read a citation. God bless you for your sacrifice and my daughter and I will never forget today. I have pictures of the mile marker I'd you would like them.

Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.

The Wind on The Downs

“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”

(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )

Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….

“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”

I did not know Mark, but I am remembering
his service and sacrifice. He is my hero. !

The Other Side

i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.

can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.

i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side

the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

Gold Star Mother,

September 17, 2007

Mark and I were classmates at Clemson. We also served consecutive tours in Iraq. I knew of his death soon after it happened, but am ashamed to admit, have only now been able to put my sadness into words of proper condolence.

I know that when he and I were in school together, being an Infantry Officer was just about the only thing he really ever wanted to do.

I suppose, for me, I remember his zeal, and how great he was coaching me with my tactics, and feel some peace.

Humbly, respectfully, and with a heavy heart,

CPT (RET) Batina Sundem '96

August 6, 2007

I don't pretend to know what to say or do that would bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.

Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.

I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON (KIA on 07/06/07) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

I was a member of the Scout Plt where Mark liked to "catch a ride" when the office started to cave in on him. We were together on that devastating day. Having the honor to serve with such a dedicated leader, father, and friend has truly changed my life. You will always be remembered for your unwavering dedication to the mission and, more importantly, to us: the troops who you inspired daily. God be with you Mark, and my most sincere condolences to the entire Stubenhofer family. Mark was the epitamy of the American way of life, a blessing to so many men.

To the Stubenhofer family:

My deepest condolenses on the loss of Mark. Mark was my buddy during the Captain's Career Course and my roommate at CAS3 at Fort Leavenworth, KS. He was a superb officer, down to earth, very smart, well-liked by all our peers, and always willing to lend a helping hand.

I will always cherish the memories of our study sessions, canoeing at the Chatahoochee during his promotion party and our trips to KC.

In the short time that I got to know him, I found out that he was a truly special person and a very dedicated family man.

He will always be remembered.

Today, Nov.6, 2005, My father arrived in DC on a buisness trip. I recieved a call from him saying he was at the Arlington Cemetery to see Cpt. Stubenhofers grave site. I was very pleased to hear that since I have never been there. He said he would call me again when he had found the site. After not hearing from him for about five minutes I called him back and noticed my father was crying. He explained to me what was written on the stone and how proud he was of Mark. When we got off the phone I sat and cried and thought of all the memories I served with this man.Being in the same unit with him for three and ahalf years, and knowing him since the start. I always thought of him as being a great man and great soldier, and I was pleased to hear that he was going to be our commander going back to Iraq for the second time.I spoke to him many times and eat dinner with him just weeks before he died.I remember him telling me about Hope being born, how excited he was , and how he could not wait to see her.I remember on Dec.7, 2004, as we were moving into our new Battlion HQs, hearing that Cpt. Stubenhofer was killed in action. I remember felling so empty and alone.I read an article written by his Mother saying that Mark always spoke up when he knew he was in the right. No matter what rank nore who it was,if it was right, he spoke it.That is so true. What a great leader he was and still is.I got out of the Army a few months back, and try not to think about what life was like being away from home. But on this day I still remember Dec. 7, 2004, when God took a great man to be in a better place. My best reguards to Patti, Lauren, Justin, Hope and to the rest of the Family.God Bless you all.

And to CPT. Mark N. Stubenhofer, Thank you so much for being an insparation,a great leader and a great soldier.Thank you so much Sir.

Sincerly,
