Marko Zlatich, 91, passed away in the early morning of July 26, 2023, Bethesda, Maryland. He was born on July 4, 1932, to Joseph and Lydia Zlatich in Chicago, Illinois. There he grew up alongside his brother, Boris.

Marko had two sons, Mark and Timothy, by his first wife, Elizabeth Turner Zlatich. He married Nancy Maes Aherne in 1993 and became a steadfast presence in the families of her three children, Edith, Chris, and Nick.

Marko earned a degree from the University of Chicago, and Georgetown University, receiving a master's degree in foreign service in 1957. Marko would serve in the US Army Reserve 352nd Civil Affairs Command from 1957 to 1963.

He volunteered countless hours to many organizations devoted to history, including the Society of the Cincinnati, the Company of Military Historians, the Maryland Historical Society, and the National Museum of American History. Through this work, Marko published two books, hundreds of academic articles, texts, and presentations, and contributed to countless others.
