Martin Quinn Obituary

March 6, 1936 – November 24, 2024
Martin Joseph Quinn, 88, passed away peacefully surrounded by family in hospice care on November 24, 2024, at The Kensington assisted living facility in Reston, Virginia.

Martin immigrated from Ireland at the age of 21 after growing up in Castlerea and Ennis. He met his wife, Julie, in Washington, DC, who came from Liverpool, England to work as a nurse. Their shared values and determination led to a loving marriage that spanned six decades.

Martin built a legacy in America, starting when he paid his way through and graduated from Georgetown University. He went on to work at the Federal Trade Commission and later followed his passion for real estate, finding fulfillment as a realtor.

Family was the cornerstone of Martin's life. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, always prioritizing the needs of those he loved. He enjoyed spending time with them in the Outer Banks, along with dear friends. Martin voraciously followed the stock market, and while a man of few words, he enjoyed discussions regarding finance. In retirement, Martin loved traveling the world with Julie.

Martin is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 60 years, Julie Quinn. He adored and was proud of his three children: Kevin Quinn (Susanna), Sean Quinn (Lily) and Delia Troy (Matt); along with his eight grandchildren: David, Tyler (Danielle), William, John Miles, Claire, Martin, Kathleen, and Lucas. He loved his many relatives in Ireland and England.

He was predeceased by his parents in Ireland, Patrick and Josephine Quinn; his seven siblings, and his "American" parents, Russell and Mayree Dailey.

A Funeral Mass will be held at St. John Neumann Catholic Church on December 13, 2024, at 11 a.m., with reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Medical Team Hospice, 1896 Preston White Drive, Reston, Virginia 20191 https://medicalteam.com/hospice/what-is-hospice/.

Martin was born in 1936 in Castlerea, Ireland. I was born in the same year. We were both delivered by my Aunt Cissie who was a Maternity Nurse. Pre World War II years were extremely tough with little or no employment for parents and limitations on available food items especially nourishment for children. But Martin came from a family noted for their gifted determination and one where every family member contributed toward the success of each other. For whatever reason Martin had the nickname of "Mirdy" when he was a young boy. Martin immigrated to the U.S. when he was 21 years old and lived with my sister Katherine and Joe Moore in Maryland. On his very own time, Martin attended and graduated from Georgetown University in WDC, and later spent his entire career with The Federal Trade Commission. That was Martin's way of saying "thank you" to his newly adopted country.
God speed to you Martin, and please don't tell the people up there, how things should be done.

We lived next door to Julie and Martin on Fowlers Lane. They were always sweet neighbors. Julie would bake cookies whenever I used the snowblower on their driveway. I know they loved their kids and we enjoyed hearing the tales of their trips to Ireland. Our condolences to Julie and the whole clan.
