MARY AMEY Obituary


AMEY MARY H. AMEY (Age 94) On June 16, 2015 at her home in Great Falls, VA with her loving husband, Robert by her side. Mary had been active in business, civic and charitable work for many years. Some of her business activities included being the co-owner and secretary-treasurer of juvenile furniture stores in Virginia and Maryland from 1969-1993. She also was the owner and buyer of several women's wear clothing stores in Arlington, Alexandria, and Springfield from 1962-1974. Mary also worked for ten years in the food industry. Mary's civic activities included serving as past president, Chapter 1, Capital Speakers, Club 1991-1992; past club president of Capital Speakers, 1993-1994 and was a current member of the governing board. Mary also served as past president of the Virginia Chamber Orchestra Guild, 1986-1987; past vice president and treasurer of The Hospitality and Information Service of Meridian House International, 1984-1985, requiring arranging programs for members of the diplomatic community where she was a member for over 17 years. She also served in various fundraising activities for the Montgomery Hospice Society, Goodwill Industries, International Eye Foundation, Boy Scouts of America, and served as a volunteer at The White House. Mary was also a current member of Women of Washington, Welcome to Washington and the Washington Art Guild. As a world traveler, Mary believed that it was extremely important to foster friendships between all cultures. She enjoyed entertaining, art, architecture, music, and antiques. She is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, Robert M. Amey. Family and friends may gather on Sunday, June 21, 2015 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Everly-Wheatley Funeral Home, 1500 W. Braddock Rd., Alexandria, VA 22302. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, June 24, 2015 at 12 noon at McLean Presbyterian Church, 1020 Balls Hill Rd., McLean, VA 22101. Interment will be held in Stewartsville, NJ. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army Women's Auxiliary of Washington DC.
