Mary Alyce Murphy Delaplane

Mary Alyce Murphy Delaplane, 84, passed away May 31, 2025. She was born in 1941 in Dallas to Ruth and Wayne Murphy. She was a proud 1959 graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School and later of Southern Methodist University (SMU). She was a legislative aide on Capitol Hill, an advocate for the disabled with multiple government agencies, and later the assistant director of the Torpedo Factory Art Center in Alexandria, VA. She also co-founded the local women's singing group Philomela. She is survived by her daughter Katie Harris (Eddy Hays), five granddaughters, and two great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held Saturday, September 27, 2025 at 11 a.m. at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 2701 Cameron Mills Rd., Alexandria. A streaming link will also be on the church website.
