Mary Durr Obituary

Mary Sophia Vitkovitsky Durr passed away on June 19, 2024, after battling cancer. She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Michael; and their two sons, Michael (married to Sara, with granddaughters Emily and Caroline) and Paul (married to Becky, with grandsons Nathan and Caleb).
Born in Lviv, Ukraine, in 1934, her family fled in 1942 escaping the advancing Russian army. Over the next several years, they traversed Europe until Germany was defeated. In 1949, the family emigrated to Rochester, NY.
Mary graduated from Wayne State University and later earned a master's degree in social work from Catholic University. For 20+ years she worked with the Adoption Service and Information Agency (ASIA) helping families adopt hundreds of children.
Mary is remembered as a loving, compassionate woman who found her greatest joy in caring for family and friends.
Memorial service: 11 a.m., Friday, June 28, at the Ukrainian Catholic National Shrine, 4250 Harewood Rd. NE.
