Mary Sharpe Obituary

Died peacefully on November 11, 2025, in Bethesda, MD. Born in Camden, NJ to William J. and Anna (Paradiso) Mihm, Mary Ann attended Gloucester Catholic H.S. She earned her nursing diploma from Fitzgerald Mercy Hospital School of Nursing and completed her BSN, M.Ed. in Nursing Education, and doctoral coursework at Columbia University's Teachers College. In 1973 she married Mark Sharpe of London, England and together they raised sons Geoffrey and David, living in London, Paris, and NJ. After Mark's death in 1996, Mary Ann continued to teach and practice nursing, becoming a Nurse Practitioner and serving on the nursing faculty at Montclair State University. She was especially passionate about women's health. Her longtime partner Theodore Schirm passed away in 2018. Mary Ann was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend; an avid gardener; and a devoted companion to animals. She adored spending time in Cornwall, where Mark's family had their home. She was active in lay ministry at All Saints Episcopal Church (Scotch Plains) and Calvary Episcopal Church (Summit, NJ). In her final years she lived in Bethesda and attended St. John's Episcopal Church. She is survived by son Geoffrey (Laurel Hatt); grandchildren Endel and Elliot; son David; sisters-in-law Endellion Sharpe, Alexandra Banay (Ron), and Charlotte Obolensky; brother-in-law Christopher McCall; brother Thomas Mihm; and cousins Stephen Mihm (Akela Reason) and Kathy Dunning (Jeff), along with extended family and her beloved cat Phoebe. Services will be held at a later date.
