MARY GODFREY SKIPP
Of Stephens City, Virginia, passed away on November 15, 2010. She was born on December 28, 1947 in Chestertown, MD, the daughter of Philip James Skipp and Harriet Louisa Rogers Skipp.Mary attended her first two years of high school at Chestertown High School, then attended Margaret Hall School in Versailles, Kentucky, graduating in 1965. She attended Hollins College in Hollins, Virginia, then transferred to the University of Maryland in College Park, graduating in 1969, with a Bachelor of Arts degree in drama. She graduated with a Master of Arts degree in Social Work from the Catholic University of America in 1981.Mary practiced as a clinical social worker at a number of agencies in the Washington, DC area, including the Great Oaks Community Psychiatric Clinic. She also worked for ASIA, an agency which arranged adoptions of Korean children by American couples. This involves several trips to Korea to transport the children to the US as well as appraising the suitability of a couple for adoption and follow-up monitoring of the couples' parenting of the child. She maintained a private practice in Silver Spring, MD for several years and then continued to practice in Winchester, VA, after her marriage to Lawrence Fagg in 1993. Due to effects of cancer, she retired in 1996.Mary was extraordinarily compassionate and interested in people. She had a gift of relating to people and conveying the joy and goodwill that radiated from her. This was apparent in the way she maintained continual contact with her friends and relatives as well as those of her husband. She is survived by her husband, Lawrence Fagg, her brother, Stefan Skipp, and her nephews, Richard Skipp, Brendan Skipp, and Philip Skipp, as well as her cousins, Mary Woodland Tan, Elizabeth Foscue, Robert Bryan, and Margaret Ann Cummings.A Memorial service will be held at the Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Chestertown, MD at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, November 23, 2010.
