MARY WEADON Obituary

Mary Doyle Weadon
Passed peacefully in her sleep on January 22, 2022. She was 91. She was born December 13, 1930 in Albany, New York, and was a resident of Chevy Chase Maryland for over eight decades. In the 1950's she attended the University of Maryland, but left school to work as an assistant director at Turkey Thicket Playground in Northeast Washington, DC. In the early 1960s she started the Little Group of Chevy Chase Nursery School. The Little Group started in her home, but eventually went on to operate at both Blessed Sacrament and Lady of Lourdes parochial schools.Children were the joy of her life, and over the nearly half a century long existence of the school, she and her staff were able to give hundreds of children a wonderful beginning. A star athlete, she excelled in a wide range of sports, most notably basketball, where she led her Blessed Sacrament and Academy of the Holy Cross teams to countless victories. She is survived by her son Patrick D. Weadon (Catherine) from her marriage to Wells M. Weadon; her grandchildren, Cathleen B. Wilson (John), Mary Catherine Weadon, Joseph P.Weadon and Colleen C. Weadon; great-grandchild Adeline B. Wilson; and a host of devoted nieces, nephews and friends who loved her dearly. A Mass of Christian Burial to honor and celebrate the life of Mary D. Weadon will be held on Friday, February 11, 2022 at 10 a.m., at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, 7500 Pearl Street, Bethesda, MD. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Our Lady of Lourdes School/Tuition Assistance Fund, 7500 Pearl St., Bethesda, Maryland 20814.
