MATTIE K. WRIGHT  
Mattie K. Wright, entered into eternal rest August 31, 2016 in Oakland, CA. Formerly of Chicago, IL and Chevy Chase, MD, Mattie received her BA from Roosevelt College (University) and MSW from Loyola University, Chicago. Excelling in academics, she pursued post graduate studies at Smith College, Northhampton, MA. Her career as a Psychiatric Social Worker included: United Charities of Chicago; the Veterans Administration; Executive Director of a Pilot Program for Unwed Pregnant Adolescents, Florence Crittenden Home; Director of Equal Employment Opportunity, US Public Health Service, serving under Surgeon General, C. Everett Koop, and in post retirement as a renal social worker. Mattie was very accomplished and enjoyed many firsts. Always choosing the path of excellence, she was a member of the Senior Executive Service, US Federal Government. Vivacious and the consummate hostess, she entertained in her homes in Chicago, White Pigeon, MI, Chevy Chase, MD, Chincoteague, VA and Lewes, DE. Generous beyond measure, she is survived by her devoted daughter, Pamela Kirkling Sweeney (Dr. James III); granddaughter, Kelly C. Woolfolk, Esq.; great-grandson, Andrew, all of Oakland. Remembrances, Loyola University, School of Social Work for African American students. Services private.
