Maxine Platzer Lynn

Maxine Lynn Obituary

On Saturday, November 23, 2024, Maxine Platzer Lynn passed away at her home in Los Angeles, with her three daughters beside her, after a vibrant life of 96 years.

Maxine was born and raised in New York, then lived most of her adult life in Washington, DC alongside her true love, Bernard Lynn. A proud graduate of the University of Virginia, world traveler, generous supporter of the Women's Center at UVa and the Department of Neurology at Cedars Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, Max enjoyed her final chapter of life surrounded by her lovingly-assembled Asian art collection, her mother's paintings, her (many) golf trophies, books, grandchildren's projects, and all the ephemera representing her wide-ranging interests and experiences.

Maxine is survived by her daughters Elise Friedman Shapiro, Amy Lynn Quinn, and Julie Lynn (Douglas Smith), her stepson Michael Lynn (Liza), and her grandchildren Brian Shapiro (Cat Shively), Shelby Quinn (Philip Luu), Zoe Lynn Smith and Jack Smith.

Private family services were held in Los Angeles, California on November 27, where she was laid to rest beside her beloved husband. May their memory be a blessing.

I just learned of dear Maxine's passing. As a young man and recent UVa graduate, I had the distinct pleasure of working with Maxine and Bernie on the design and construction of their wonderful home in The Belvedere. Maxine was so very kind to me, and I've never forgotten it.
