Michael Flanigan Obituary

Michael Paul Flanigan, Sr., 91, of Northern Virginia, passed away peacefully at his home on September 13, 2025. He is survived by his four children, four grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and extended family.
Mr. Flanigan served in the United States Navy Reserves from 1952 to 1964. He began his career in the family publishing and printing business, mastering Linotype machines, and went on to a distinguished federal government career. His service included work at the Government Printing Office, a detail to the Senate Select Committee on Presidential Campaign Activities (the Watergate Committee), and ultimately as printing editor and head of the publications department for the House Committee on Energy and Commerce.
Mike was devoted to family and friends; loved reading, classical music, and tennis; and was a lifelong champion of animals and nature.
Private services will be held in Indiana, with a celebration of life planned in Washington, DC. In remembrance, the family welcomes donations to a pet charity of choice. One final "cha-cha-cha!" to our beloved Dad, Granddad, Great-Granddad, Brother, Uncle, Cousin, and Friend—though none could ever match his own voice.

Mike introduced me to classical music about 70 years ago when I was a child. He became my brother-in-law and always treated me with kindness and respect. He sang "I Love You Truly" and "The Lord´s Prayer" at my wedding in 1964. He had a beautiful voice! I will miss him.
