Michael Fraioli Obituary

Fraioli

Michael John Fraioli

Michael Fraioli (age 67) passed peacefully on May 27, 2023, surrounded by his family, after a courageous battle with leukemia. Mike was the devoted husband to, and is survived by, his wife of 37 years, Carol Eickert and beloved father to daughter Michelle (Phillip Revie) of Boston, MA, son Matthew (Blakelee Gould) of Silver Spring, MD, and brother to Tom (Vikki) of Modesto, CA. He was preceded in death by brother Robert and parents Pasquale and Livia Fraioli all of Modesto. Mike was born in Modesto and was a long-time resident of Chevy Chase, MD.

Mike is also survived by a "caucus" of long-time friends. His gentle, offbeat sense of humor, his laughter, and his good counsel are already missed. Mike had a larger-than-life personality. He loved cooking, exploring, and spending time with family and friends.

Mike was proud to be the son of Italian immigrants, one a master carpenter, the other an accomplished seamstress and teacher; he lived the American Dream. After breaking into politics by working on the successful campaign to elect Tony Coelho to the U.S. House of Representatives in 1978, Mike moved to Washington, DC, worked on Capitol Hill and served on the senior staff of the DCCC.

In 1987 Mike founded his consulting firm Fraioli & Associates and was the strategist for numerous campaigns and organizations from the local to national levels, advising some of the highest-level Democrats in Congress, rejoicing when they won and grieving when they lost. Mike was an advocate for a wide variety of labor groups, organizations, and progressive causes.

A celebration of his life will take place later this summer. In lieu of flowers, Remembrance gifts in Mike's honor may be made to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Services entrusted to Going Home Funeral Care.

Not enough space here to note Mike Fraioli“s magic. Friend is not a strong enough word.

I had the pleasure of meeting Mike for the first time in DC many years ago and every time I saw him he was smiling. He helped a lot of people, he was a true people person, and he will be missed.

A genuinely kind and decent man who often helped to transform peoples lives through acts of thoughtfulness and generosity. His example is the kind that we need for future generations. He will be missed.

Michael was my friend - staffer - confidant! I will miss our weekly calls over these last 40+ years. He was involved in many issues helping the folks in the Valley - a tremendous advocate!

Harry Truman said that if you want a friend in Washington, get a dog. But he did not know Mike Fraioli. There was no better friend in the world. Will really, really miss you Mike.
