Michael Morgan Heffner
Michael Morgan Heffner passed away on October 6, 2023 in Silver Spring, MD at the age of 55. He was born on December 1, 1967 in Fairmont, WV to Robert (Bud) and Julia (Lou) Morrison Heffner, both of whom preceded him in death. Mike is survived by his loving husband, Anthony (Tony) Brown, his children Emma and Neil Heffner, stepchildren India, Chloe, Caroline, and Isabel Brown, his brother Richard Heffner, sister-in-law Jan Woodward, and a wide circle of family and friends.
Mike's life was filled with creativity, passion, and a gregarious energy that he shared with countless neighbors, clients, loved ones, and even the occasional stranger. He was a long-time volunteer at the Whitman Walker Clinic in Washington, DC, starting in the early '90s. Mike dedicated himself to community and issue-based activism, generously giving his time and skills to those around him. He found joy at Bryce Resort in Basye, VA, where he taught snowboarding, painted inspirational rocks on the paths of Lake Laura, and hosted memorable firepit gatherings at his home. Perfect days for Mike often involved snowboarding, laughter with friends, visits to art museums, or hiking with his dogs. His warmth and wry humor touched the lives of many.
In his professional life, Mike co-founded 202design, a DC-based creative design firm, in 1999 with Lucy Pope.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, December 22 at 2 p.m. at the National United Methodist Church - Metropolitan Campus in Washington, DC. Contributions in Mike's memory can be made to your favorite LGBTQ charity or through www.lab-rescue.org

Mike and I were neighbors and best buddies when we were 5! We actually got married in my backyard and he planned the whole beautiful thing! I love you Mike! Much love to your husband and sweet children...heaven attained a loving soul!!!
