I briefly served with Mike in Hawaii. He had just come into the scout platoon as a squad leader as I was about to ETS from the army.
I remember him being very professional, athletic, and a dedicated career soldier. Shortly after I got out I heard he made it into the military's premier unit. I was not suprised.
Rest in peace, and thank you for your service.

MSG Mac was also one of the squad leaders i served under during my time with B Co 1st platoon 3/327. Along with fellow soldiers Garneski, Slager, Thyng and Dickey i too remember Mac as a exceptional leader. He pushed us all past our limits and molded us into good soldiers. When weeks in the back 40 of Ft Campbell started to wear us down, he was right there to make us laugh and remember that we were soldiers with a job to do.
I also remember Garnseki falling off that log and into the freezing cold water. Mac jumped in and fished him out. that's the kind of guy he was. Selfless. He and his family opened up his home to many of us around the holidays when we single soldiers couldn't fly home. whenever you had a problem, you could always go to Mac for advice, whether you were in his squad or not.Sgt Mac, thank you for all that you have done. I have always wondered what happened to all of those i served with , and i am truly sorry that i had to find out of your passing so late. i will never forget .
Rest in peace Mac.

Mcnutty,
I was up early this morning reviewing for a test, and you were on my mind... I was reading through some scriptures and this one jumped out at me. I hope you know how much you are loved and missed!

Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.
The Wind on The Downs
“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”
(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )
Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….
“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”

his service. He is my hero. !

The Other Side
i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.
can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.
i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.
it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side
the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.
Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.
I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend who joined the Army with three other friends, one of whom is my son (Le Ron was killed in action on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

Here it is 7 years after I left the Army and I still think of Sgt. McNulty all of the time. The reason for this is because no single person in that 3 years that I served in the 101st influenced me as much as "Sgt. Mac". When we meet great human beings, teachers and leaders in life, they always stay with us. I met him the first day I arrived at B/Co. 3-327 and he proceeded to turn me into an Infantry soldier. He also had a great sense of humor which was very helpful in the mud and cold we so often found ourselves in. A true soldier was Sgt. McNulty

To the McNulty Family,
My heartfelt sympathy is with your entire family. Mike was one of the most patriotic and selfless men I have ever had the honor to meet. In February of 1997 our unit (327th) was in JRTC. While doing a water crossing Garneski fell off a log and the weight of his gear took him under in the ice cold water. Mike, with no regard for his own safety jumped in and fished him out. This is one of many fond memories I have of Mike and why he will always be a roll model to me. I miss you my friend....I appologize for ever losing touch. May God Bless you and your family!

Psalm 23
1
The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not be in want.
2
He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters,
3
He restores my soul. He guides me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake.
4
Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.
5
You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.
6
Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.
This is a verse that I have found to be comforting to me during my husbands death. Remember that when it seems that no one else is round, God is still there with you! And he will be your rock!
My daughter,McKaLyne, and I send our heartfelt sympathy for your loss! God Bless this warrior, God Bless those whom serve freedom's cause! They are our true HERO's!!!!

It has been along time since I have seen Mike or any of the family. I am just hearing of this sadness now (10/1/05). My hart is heavy at this news. I had the honor of having Mike and his siblings as friends while growing up in Elgin, IL. I also was at Larkin High with all of the McNultys and enjoyed my times I had with them. Many times in my life I have had an occasion to reminiscent on that wonderful family. Mike was a special kid of person who made a difference in many peoples lives. I am not surprised to here of all that he accomplished in his life. How proud I am of him to have to have had him as a friend. To the children that Mike left behind: May you grow up with the understanding of the teachings you father passed on to you, and may you give that same love to others. I am truly sorry, and may God watch and guide all of the McNultys.

MICHAEL MCNULTY WAS A HERO. NOT BECAUSE OF HIS MILITARY TIME, BECAUSE HE PROVIDED DISCIPLINE, HONOR, PRIDE, JOY, AND LOVE TO EVERYONE HE HAD MET. HE CHOSE TO SERVE HIS COUNTRY WITHOUT FEAR AND MAINTAINED HUMBLE IN KNOWING THIS. HE PROVIDED SECURITY AND KNOWLEDGE TO EVERY PERSON HE HAD EVER MET. HE FLOURISHED HIS FAMILY WITH LOVE AND GAVE GREAT RESPECT TO EVERYONE HE KNEW. I AM PROUD TO SAY THAT I KNEW MICHAEL MCNULTY. I AM PROUD THAT HE WAS A PART OF MY FAMILY AND A FRIEND, AND ALWAYS WILL BE, IN MY HEART. HE WAS A PILLAR OF STRENGTH, AND AS LOYAL TO HIS FAMILY AS EVERY MAN COULD HOPE TO BE. I WILL MISS HIM, AND NEVER FORGET WHAT HE HAS DONE FOR MY SISTER, HIS KIDS, AND MY FAMILY. HE HAD MARCHED INTO THE UNKNOWN REMEMBERING ONE THING:

Dear Paula and Family,
Words could not even come close to describing the pain I feel right now for you. Mike and I were in the reserve unit together in Joliet and remained in contact throughout the years. When we got the chance to talk on the phone - which was difficult because of his status - he proved over and over again his dedication to the armed services. He loved his country and he loved his family. I am honored to have been called his friend. You are in our every thought and prayer. Our hearts break for your loss and mine will always hold a special place for Mike.

The void left in our lives by Mikes sacrifice of life for his country and our freedom will never be forgotten, but let it be filled with all the wonderful gestures, thoughts, and memories that he shared with us and let us, in them, find moments of peace and happiness. Dear Family,
We graduated together from Larkin, in Elgin, IL, as well as played in the band together, with Sean and Dan and I was a witness to Michael's marriage. We shared alot of laughs together. Although our lives have changed as we move forward in life, I am proud to have known Michael(Mike) and cry often when I now think of him and his family. To Paula and the children, know that your husband and father was a good man and well liked in high school. He went on to serve our country and although he is in a better place, he will watch over you all as your days increase. He will always be listening, so talk to him often. Keep your memories close to your heart and remain close as a family and together with God Grace you can go forward. Know that Michael received several high honors and great rewards for his hard work, dedication, and for what he believed in. I placed a picture of Michael in my Bible, with a prayer asking God to watch over the entire family. Be strong, laugh alot and remember him always. Love, Bethmarie Tobin-Lauber
