CPT Morton was my first CO at my first duty station in Germany. I will always remember the last chat I had with CPT Morton on his last day as our CO. He shared with me how the ARMY picks your next duty station, he was right my duty stations were the same as my first. The good thing was that my Army career started with his leadership and my foundation was strong. I hope he knows that I did listen to the other piece of advice he game me that day, to put my benefits to work once I finished with my service. Well, sir, I graduated from Oklahoma State University in 2009. Thank you for the long morning runs around the barracks, I was not going to give up, I kept up!
I am so sorry to hear of his passing, when I find myself near DC, I will visit him.

Mike and I, use to run to the bunker together during motor and rocket attacks. Jammed in a bunker designed to hold way less than was in there. Mike use to say, "okay, thighten up, make your buddy smile". We all laughed...never forget you Mike! Miss you brother!

When you work with a man day in and day out, 7 days a week, sometimes 18 to 20 hours a day, under very stressful conditions, such as war, you learn a man. You learn allot about his personality, what is near and dear to him and you learn his strengths and weaknesses. Mike and I were good friends, buddies, teammates and comrades. We leaned on each other during long hours of mind numbing hard work. Mike took care of me....and I watched his back and did all I could to support him. I worked with him long before I ever met him...I worked in Kuwait and he was part of our Brigade in Iraq. We did not meet until his last year in Iraq. But we knew each other from our work. He was a very special man. Our backgrounds were similar, he was a Ranger/Spec Ops guy and I work in Spec Ops Aviation (Task Force 160 out of Fort Campbell). Our work ethic was the same...do it right the first time, never settle for average, and never give up!
I never knew he was sick. I never knew just how sick. We stayed in comms through email but he never complained or let on that anything was wrong. That was the way he was...
Mike Morton was my friend. Mike Morton was a fine man and a great Military Officer. I love you my brother and miss you so much!

As we continue to mourn our loss, we find comfort in remembering your many acts of kindness, your gifts of love, and your service to all mankind. It is also our belief that God noticed your life of service to all and whispered to you, "Well done, my son, well done, and now I have a better place for you." With your passing, our family chain has been broken. But, our memories of you and your life will forever be in our hearts, minds, and souls. You have given us a legacy for which our lives have been enriched, and for that we will forever be grateful. May you rest in peace, our beloved Michael.

Mike was a cool dude,,, I remember Mike always thought he knew more IT than me. He made it a point to call me over everytime he created a new power point presentation, and as we know, that was alot, lol.... I finally conceded to Mike that he was king of power point. Mike was a dedicated, hard worker who got the job done. Mike your passing is not in vain. I will apply your work ethic to everything i do.. Rest in heaven brother..

Mike was a cohort, a friend and in some ways a brother. We worked together in Iraq for several years and developed a bond that can only come to be through that type of experiance. I have to say he was truly a great American and Patriot. His family was of the greatist importance to him and I heard as much about them over the years. Those who were privilaged to love and know him will surely miss him the most, but all have lost dearly.

It is an enormous and heart-rending loss of a great American. Mike Morton worked with me during the highest and most dangerous time during the Iraq War supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom, two years before the surge. Mike earned the respect of the senior military and DoD civilian leadership because of his commitment to the war time mission, his seasoned experience of the combat environment, his knowledge of war time logistics, and his warrior work ethic. It was Mike's ideas and concept that were used in the Iraqi theater equipment retrograde plan. That was the first time I met Mike in November 2005, at the very first retrograde yard in Baghdad during the equipment retrograde plan proof of principle. It was cold and rainy, we were both up to our knees in mud, and Mike was already on site for four days. Mike's plan worked and it was used and improved throughout Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation New Dawn.
A man of his word and honor, Mike was an honest and veracious colleague. I and many others could always count on Mike doing the right and incorruptible thing, mostly when those decisions were under stressful and direct pressure. Undoubtedly, his integrity was sound and above approach.
As a protective and nurturing family man, who inspirits the quintessence of the love and dedication a proud father has for his wife and children, he also showed nothing less but loyalty and devotion as a friend, patriotism and courage as an American, kindness and sincerity as a stranger, impenetrable faith as a believer, scrupulousness and authenticity as a human being, and reputable chivalry as a gentleman.
Bubba, we will forever miss you as a piece of our heart breaks with your passing. You are unforgettable. You're in a better place where God welcomes and rewards warriors like you.

I met Michael in 1988 when he started dating my sister Petra. I cannot wish for a better brother in law. He was this huge American guy who spoke with this very calming voice, considerate and lovable. Always smiling, joking and laughing. He always told me jokes and he laughed so much about it. Michael and Petra married in Germany and their first son was delivered, shortly after, I had to say goodbye to him and he left for Irak. I still carry this picture in my heart, his farewell on that day. I am very sad and my deepest condolences to my sister Petra and my nephews Marcel and Brandon.

I was business acquaintance of Mike. He was always so jovial and nice to talk to. He often talked about his sons and it was evident how much he loved them. I was impressed that he was trying to further his education even at an age where many people don't bother. Sadly, an all around nice man has left this earth. Condolences to his family and especially his boys he loved so much.

Mike, you will be sorely missed! It's great that when we're younger we always get to see our cousins, sadly when we get older, and life sends us in all different directions. I'm so sorry we didn't get to spend more time together. I'll never forget that Morton smile and the good times we had. God Bless you Soldier! Prayers for the Morton, Holland family
