I came to revisit Alexandria after a long time away and tried to look up mike. Needless today I am shocked. We had such a good time in high school doing things we really shouldn't And had a wonderful time at the reunion. Thank you for so many fond memories. You are well thought of.

Hey Joanie,
So sorry to hear about Mike passing. Brings back so many memories of both of you. Chatting, golf, trips, and back then all of us growing up in our 30s. Mike was a good, kind kindred spirit and I know that you guys had a special relationship. I know you both.
Love, Jim and Sandy

Mike Ranney. From many years of watching/coaching baseball together with our sons as they grew up on the baseball field, we know him as a wonderful coach, devoted father, loving husband, and great friend. I will not be able to watch a Little League game without thinking of him, and smiling.... We will miss you so much, Mike! Our thoughts and prayers are with Joanie, Joseph and the rest of your family.

Mike and my late husband, Rick Mayher, were the very best of friends at Fort Hunt High School. We both thought the world of him. He was always happy, crazy, and so much fun. And that's how I will forever remember Mike. I send my deepest condolences to his family.

Mike and I grew up together in that wonderful place called Tauxemont. We played as children and then as young teenagers long into firefly-lit nights. Countless days of tennis and golf (Mike usually won) and many games of football, basketball, and most enjoyably..neighborhood whiffle ball! We hiked Old Rag mountain and got thrown out of the Richmond Theater in Alexandria for "laughing too loud"! We rarely saw each other as adults, but when we did it was instantly old times again. My condolences to the Ranneys and love to Tesa and Pete. God Bless you my friend.

Both of our sons played little league baseball together. We would sit watch the game and just talk about baseball. I started working at Costal Flats and one day he walked in. I said hey Mike what are you doing here. He responded I'm just getting a bit to eat. My co worker saw me talking to him said where do you know Mike from. I said our kids play baseball together. It was a small world after all. We would talk about other things besides baseball, but Mike made see that hard work, integrity and casting a great shadow were the keys to success. Mike you will be missed!

I became a restaurant manager because I saw Mike Ranney work. I thoroughly enjoyed my two years at Mike's (4/92-1/94) because of the culture he instilled in his company and the passion in which he practiced hospitality. I have always considered Mike's the benchmark for hospitality and that's because of Mike Ranney. I'm sure his legacy will live on and should I make it back to the DC area, GAR is where I would want to work. I know he will be missed by all whom he touched at home, at work, and in the community. Warm thoughts sent to both his personal and business families.

I went to college with Mike at UVA. We were brothers of the ATO House, the oldest chapter of ATO in the country. He was a great guy, smart and savvy, and this showed in his accomplishments during his life. We are richer for having known him. My deepest condolences to his family.
