To Linda and family...
I attended high school with Mike. It seems we always ended up in the same home room every year. He was a very kind boy who knew just about everything about anything!! He certainly left his mark on this world. I know his family must be very proud of him. I am sorry for your loss.

Mike was the consummate, responsible, professional. I was a late comer to the COBE party, and while coming up to speed I relied on Mike for his breadth of experience, detailed knowledge, and, most importantly for me, unfailing patience. I was, and am, thankful for his kindness.

Even at GSFC, where there are a lot of excellent Instrument Systems Engineers, Mike stood out both professionally and personally. His ability to draw on a wide range of SE tools that he had either created or mastered, coupled with his Project experience and welcoming demeanor, made him one of my first choices when I needed a problem consult, professional or otherwise! An exceptional engineer. An exceptional person. An exceptional loss.

Mike was my friend and mentor. He assisted me with my return to NASA after 16 years in private industry. Many things had changed and his guidance was invaluable. We talk about the old days and the new days. He made me more effective and focused. I will never forget his many kindnesses. My sincere condolences are extended to Mike's family. He was a lovely and thoughtful man.

Mike was a good friend and a fine colleague for the COBE satellite mission, one of NASA's most challenging scientific projects ever undertaken. His understanding and leadership were tremendously important for its success. We on the COBE team will all miss him tremendously, and we send our heartfelt condolences to his family and friends.
