MICHAEL SKINNER Obituary
MICHAEL MOORE SKINNER
Born July 15, 1925; died Monday, October 17, 2016. Survived by his beloved wife of 47 years, Lucy Peacock Skinner; and three children, Michelle Skinner, Annapolis MD, Michael W. Skinner, Clearwater FL and Beverly Hughes, Shepherdstown, WV; and four grandchildren, Margaret Taylor, Melissa Mitchell, Michael C. Skinner and Kara Hughes. A WWII Navy veteran, Mike served aboard the USS Washington. A graduate of Shepherd University, he earned his master's degree at George Washington University. An educator in Fairfax County Public Schools for 29 years, Mike served as a teacher, varsity basketball coach, and administrator at Mt. Vernon High School. He was a member of Washington Farm United Methodist Church, Mt. Vernon Country Club, NVADACA, Phi Delta Kappa and a lifetime member of the Virginia Congress of PTA's. A memorial service will be held in the Michael M. Skinner Field House at Mt. Vernon High School, 8515 Old Mt. Vernon Rd., Alexandria, VA 22309 on Saturday, October 29, at 10:30 a.m. A private service at Arlington National Cemetery will be conducted at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Washington Farm United Methodist Church, 3921 Old Mill Rd., Alexandria, VA, 22309; Shepherd University; or the Mt. Vernon High School Athletics Department.

Mr. Skinner was our sub-school principal for the class of 1977. We were the first to go through the new high school with him all 4 years. Such a WONDERFUL man.....he will be truly missed.........Debbie Newman (Behm)

Knowing Mike for most of my life, he was a great teacher, a pretty good racing handicapper and a true friend. I'll always treasure our friendship.

I was one of his basketball players at Mount Vernon right after the Marty Lentz years. We weren't that good--didn't have the height or talent--but he never gave up on us. He was a big influence in my life and I'll always remember him. Best to Lucy and the family.
