Im very sorry to hear (belatedly) of Dr. Tabacco´s passing. I served with Mike on the U. S.S. LaSalle 1977-78. Mike was not only a First Class Naval Officer but a gentleman, a scholar and a wonderful human being as well. It was an honor and a privilege to have known him. His legacy will not be forgotten.

Michael was the best of the best. I was his dental patient, as were others in my family. Who looks forward to going to a dentist?? Michael's patients always did! Testimony to his competence, professionalism, and downright decency. RIP.

Dear Pat, my heart goes out to you and your dear family whom I almost feel I know since Dr. T spoke so often and so affectionately of all of you.
I was a patient of your husband for more years than I can remember and so very grateful that I was truly blessed to be fortunate enough to rely on him all that time for his expertise and skill.
What an amazing and delightful human being he was. The warmth, compassion and just plain fun that he radiated infused all his interactions with his patients: this was plain to see if one spent any amount of time in his office. And this special quality was shared by his whole staff: I miss them dearly as I do him.
You brought your sunny presence into the picture very often, Pat, sharing the pleasure, warmth and humor of your life together pleasure, with us your "audience" in his waiting room. Those were such good times!
Thank you, God bless: I just love you all!

Dear Patricia and Family: Michael was an all-around great human being. In addition to being a wonderful dentist, he was a gifted teacher as well. Every time I worked with him, I learned something. He had a joy for living that showed through every time I ever talked to him. His loss is grievous, but the memories of a great husband, father and colleague will sustain us all. God bless you and with deepest sympathy, Ralph and Marina Alman.

It would be facile to mention that Michael Tabacco was a delightful dentist, which, of course, he was. But that is not what I would like to focus upon. He was a special person, who was remarkable in so many ways. We came to know of his willingness to share his family, Pat and the boys, and his family of origin parents and sibs with us and to share about our family, particularly, my daughter Ursula, who thought him to be the most lovable, entertaining, teasing person around (and vice versa!). They often discussed their mutual interest in the "soaps". In fact, I have not yet told her about his travail of the past two years, nor about his death yet. After tomorrow I will tell her. Mike was a man of many interests: music and the violin, sculpture, travelling to his beloved Italy and to New England and upstate NY in the fall, and our similar Italian backgrounds. All of these pursuits he shared in interesting details. One always left the encounter with lots to think about. I fondly remember that he remembered details about us from visit to visit over the years, that he shared medical/details about materials and natural history of the teeth and oral structures and interventions and my oral place in all that. As a result after each visit I had been educated and my knowledge expanded in significant ways. We shared too his commitment to teaching students and his weekly commitment on Fridays to continue sharing his wealth of knowledge to students at the University of Maryland School of Dentistry in advanced dental courses. At once, he accepted my invitation to contribute to my book Essentials of Public Health Biology and prepared a chapter entitled Oral Health: the Neglected Epidemic in Public Health. In the recent past years, we missed him and kept him and his family in our prayers. May he rest in peace. He will continued to be remembered by

Pat, I'm so very sorry for your loss. There are no words that can describe the sadness and loss that those of us who had the good fortune to know him- as a patient and admirer can express. He was an extraordinary man who clearly loved his family, his patients and life. God bless you all! May memories of him comfort you all.

Dear Pat & family,
I am so saddened to hear about Dr. Tabacco. I have thought of him so often over the past several years, certainly hoping for a different outcome. He was my favorite dentist of all time. His lively spirit, the warmth he exuded, and his dental expertise made him simply the best. When I told Dr. Tabacco about my son, Isaac's first experience with a pediatric dentist that was completely negative, he told me to bring him in with me to get him more comfortable, I couldn't have been more grateful for the reparative experience he provided- he let Isaac play with the air and the water and watch as I had my own exam. Dr. Tabacco was one of a kind. He loved you so much and loved his sons, with such pride, he shared updates with me over the years of all they had accomplished and just how much he loved them and their families. My heart is with you at this most challenging time and I pray that you and your family heal from the wonderful memories you have with him. With deepest sympathy, Bonnie Leventhal

Mike was a wonderful dentist who I thought of as a friend. He had a zest for living and learning and a tireless energy. His enthusiasms were boundless and infectious, he was a model for how not to age gracefully but joyfully. He is missed. My condolences to Pat and his family, including his extended family of friends, colleagues, and patients.
