SHORE

MINDEL GOLDSTEIN SHORE (Age 94)

Died on Monday, October 17, 2022. She was predeceased by her husband Milton in 2017 after 58 years of marriage. Her family includes children Lisa (Tim), Amy (Rich), and Joel (Paige) and four grandsons (Daniel, Ben, Jonathan, and Zachary). Born in Montreal, Canada in 1928, she was her high school's valedictorian and won the Governor-General's Gold Medal for the highest matriculant in the province of Quebec. She received a Master's degree in Social Work from McGill University (magna cum laude). Mindel worked in the Child Guidance Clinic of Montreal's Children's Hospital before taking a job as Chief Social Worker in the Child Guidance Clinic at the Boston Floating Hospital. Here she met and married Milton Shore, a child psychologist. In 1964, the family moved to Silver Spring, Maryland. Mindel was active in Fair Housing of Montgomery County, Women Strike for Peace, and the anti-Vietnam War movement. She was very proud to have worked with I.F. "Izzy" Stone, a prominent progressive journalist on an anti HUAC committee, and to participate in arranging bail for anti-Vietnam War protesters and housing them in sleeping bags in her basement. Mindel worked part-time at Prince George's County Family Service and full-time for 32 years at the Community Psychiatric Clinic, including as Director of the Wheaton office and later as the Education & Training Director of all the clinics. She also taught at the Catholic University School of Social Work as an adjunct instructor. I´m sorry to hear of the passing of Mindel. I admired her as a fellow social worker, and also appreciated the guidance of Milt, who was my supervisor for a number of years at NIMH. They were both very kind to me after my husband died, and I enjoyed my visits & contacts with them over the years. My condolences.

Sad to hear about your mom (and dad). They were always so nice to me and my parents were so fond of them. My heart goes out to you.
