While in Rome, he married Mattea Inclimona with whom he had a daughter, Habiba, and a son, Hassan. After graduating in 1963 with a degree in Political Science, Mohamed returned to Somalia, where he served in several senior roles within the Somali government, including the Personnel Office.
Following a divorce from Mattea, Mohamed returned to Italy in 1972, where he furthered his studies, taking trade courses and studying law at the University of Perugia. During this time, he met Anne Jillson, who was working at the American Embassy in Rome, and they decided to marry. Mohamed left for the United States in 1975 with a fiancé visa accompanied by his two children. Mohamed and Anne were married in August 1975, and moved to Alexandria shortly after their wedding. In Alexandria, Mohamed transitioned to a career in healthcare, earning certification as a nurse and licensed nurse practitioner. He worked at several nursing homes in Alexandria and also in private duty nursing services.
Mohamed was a loving husband and father who also cared deeply about his extended family and the Somali community. He and his wife, Anne, hosted numerous family members and members of the community, helping them navigate their new lives in the United States. Mohamed lived a life of service. He enjoyed helping those in need and was dedicated to maintaining the well-being of his family, friends and his community. His home was a gathering place and Mohamed liked to capture those moments with family and friends by taking photos with all who visited. He carefully stored each photo in well labeled photo albums that connected him to his past and now stand as tangible reminders of him and a life well lived. Mohamed leaves behind a lasting legacy of kindness, good deeds and generosity that had a profound impact on many lives. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
