MONICA M. O'CONNELL (Age 83)
On Wednesday, July 4, 2012 of Rockville, MD died of complications of Parkinson's disease at the Hebrew Home in Rockville. After serving as a Sister in the Order of St. Francis of Assisi, Rochester, MN, Monica was a librarian at Sousa Junior High School and at the Martin Luther King, Jr. Public Library in Washington, DC. She was the youngest and final survivor of nine children. Monica is survived by nieces and nephews in California, Nevada, Texas and Minnesota, and by many friends. Interment will be in San Diego, CAwww.COLLINSFUNERALHOME.com

Monica, best known to me as Sister Marquette, was a kind and gentle soul. She was a very knowledgable and wonderful teacher. I attended school in Portsmouth, OH and was blessed to have her as a teacher who also had a way of making you feel like a friend. I was pleased that, through my Aunt Margie, I was able to keep tabs on her through the years. It was unreal to learn that she remembered me as a student, knowing how many other young lives she touched in her teaching career.

Monica was a generous and fun-loving person and a very dear friend for almost 50 years. We have so many happy memories of our get-togethers but none more poignant than the times we and our children shared with her at Sea Farm.

I wish to express my sincere sympathy to the family of Monica M. O'Connell during your time of sorrow. Please keep in mind the comfort that God offers when we face any kind of distress. Also, he is a refuge and strength for us, a help that is readily to be found during difficult times (Psalm 46:1). As you endure the days ahead, may God give you peace and comfort.
